Dawn -- I really appreciated this article and how perfectly you articulated what I’ve sensed about our world for quite some time. I haven’t known quite what to attribute it to, but I’ve become increasingly aware of this dark side you speak of, this underbelly of our current “group think”. We dehumanize people to the extent that we care more for causes than we do the actual people involved in those causes. We go along following the hippest new trends, buying the hippest new gadgets, and of course support all the right political causes, then think nothing of it when we almost run a pedestrian over in the crosswalk, or jaywalk in front of someone’s car in the middle of the street without so much as a smile or thank you. We rally against corporate greed and corruption, and then perform our own jobs carelessly, giving little thought to how that lack of effort may affect some human being down the line. We ride the buses (or even worse, drive) with our heads down, busily texting our latest updates, while a few feet in front of us an old man struggles to hold onto his grocery bag. We’re popular within our group because we say and do all the right things and so we continue to focus our energies where we find the greatest reward. We become irritated with all the messy, time-consuming and sometimes contradictory details we must face, so we avoid them altogether – it makes things so much nicer. We’ve become so enamored of the big shiny apple dangling up ahead, that we fail to recognize it’s through the daily practice of being mindful that we create the greatest change and show the greatest compassion.

My awareness took a profound turn right around the time of my recent Chiron return (ironically enough I have my 6th house Chiron in Aquarius opposite my 12th house Uranus). I know you have the Chiron/Uranus opposition as well, and I wonder if this placement helps us to pick up on this Aquarian undercurrent, which seems to largely go unnoticed and uncommented on. Anyway, I find it very reassuring to discover I’m not alone in my awareness. Jupiter’s transit is squaring my 9th house Mars right now, so I’m particularly fired up (hopefully in a good way). Thanks for sharing your insights – I’ll say it again, I’m glad I found your site.
