Synastry Q & A: The Vertex

Synastry Q & A: The Vertex

Dawn Bodrogi September 11, 2009

Question on the Vertex: “I read that the Vertex is an important angle in synastry.  My wife and I don’t have any Vertex contacts.  Does it matter? Anti Vertex?

From Paul, Georgia

Vertex contacts aren’t necessary for long term relationships, the way Saturn The Vertexcontacts are.  In fact, it isn’t common to see Vertex contacts in sustained relationships. Vertex contacts usually bring forth the kinds of experiences that may be intense and life-changing, but often short-lived.

The Vertex is often described as a ‘spiritual ascendant.’ It is said to be a point where we have ‘fated encounters’ that alter our life plans.  However, the Vertex isn’t always about relationships. Anything eye and soul opening can enter our lives when the Vertex is activated. It can be jobs, creative projects, health issues, personal revelations. Much depends on what house the Vertex falls in.  It is a point where encounters or events will bring some kind of personal enlightenment.

Why do Vertex experiences feel like ‘fate?’  We feel fated when our inner world meets the outer, when something is brought into our lives, seemingly from out of the blue, that feels as if it was meant to be.  The ‘fated’ person or event seems to come from a place beyond our everyday reality to change our life direction or alter our consciousness.  The Vertex is the place where we taken beyond mundane reality and are reminded that we are always profoundly connected to the greater mysteries and powers of life.

Whatever involves the Vertex will reach beyond ordinary mundane existence to remind and teach us that there is no such thing as ordinary mundane existence. Vertex happenings are a tap on the shoulder telling us that our ordinary perceptions are illusions, and that the truth of our lives is always found somewhere beyond material space and time. And this is why it’s considered a wake-up call to our real identity, our ‘spiritual ascendant’. The ordinary Ascendant causes us to define ourselves by our experiences; the Vertex concerns itself with what we are (or can be) beyond our external circumstances. Vertex contacts feel ‘fated’ because they lead us to roads we instinctively feel, but cannot yet see. Vertex happenings invoke the Watcher in all of us–the one who knows, the one who works hand in hand with the one who experiences.  This is the symbolic reason it appears on the opposite side of the chart from the Ascendant.  The Ascendant concerns itself with taking in ‘life’ experiences which reflect on soul; the Vertex concerns itself with spiritual experiences which ultimately effect life choices.

In practice, I’ve found that it’s the anti-Vertex more than the Vertex that is active in ‘fated’ relationship encounters.  If the Vertex is the spiritual Ascendant, the anti-Vertex is the spiritual Descendant.  It is ‘other’ through the deepest essence of Soul.   If we allow it, if we are ready for it, the anti-Vertex contact can be more powerful than any other contact in the chart comparison.  We feel as if this person is absolutely crucial to our soul’s development.  The significance of this contact can resonate for years, long after the relationship has ended.  However, there is one catch to Vertex and anti-Vertex contacts:  we must be at a point where we are spiritually ready for the experience, or the Vertex contact may come to nothing.  As Hamlet says, “the readiness is all.”  (The exception comes when we have our own planets on the anti-Vertex; another person’s planet or midpoint that conjuncts the Vertex affects the polarity point of the anti-Vertex planet.  It makes the Vertex a very active place.)

People with planets conjunct the Vertex are often driven forward in an almost magical way.  I know an actor, an Aries, with Mars conjunct the Vertex in the fifth house.  He hasn’t been out of work, give or take a month, since the age of 16.  Highly unlikely in any actor’s life, but that’s the Vertex at work.  It draws experience which moves us forward.

People with planets conjunct the anti-Vertex, particularly an important planet like the Sun or a ruling planet, are often unusually self-contained.  Whereas most people seek to find themselves through ‘other’, the anti-Vertex people have a tendency to be their own ‘other,’ and not be inclined to partnership unless it’s a serious one.  Not that relationships will not happen in their lives;  on the contrary, the relationships that do occur will be highly charged and deeply significant.  But you won’t find people with important planets on the anti-Vertex looking for any old warm body on a Saturday night. The planetary energy, whatever it is, is looking towards ‘other’ for spiritual completion, and nothing else will do.  In fact, if the influence is strong, they may have a hard time understanding the day to day relationships and attractions that others experience.  The planet involved with the anti-Vertex and the houses it rules will tell you the flavour of the encounters and what area of life will be affected via the anti-Vertex relationships.

In some, the Vertex is very active, in others, not so much. This depends on whether or not the Vertex is heavily weighted, and it depends upon the level of spiritual awareness, which cannot be measured in the chart.  Vertices with conjunctions or vertices that hit a number of midpoints are particularly sensitive. It also can be very active by progression. And it is also related to how open and ready a person is for new experiences and turns in the road, something which cannot be completely measured.  We all have the ability to turn away from fate.

If others’ planets conjunct our Vertex axis, we may very well feel as if we have waited for this person, for this experience, our entire lives.  And that may well be the truth.  Entire life directions, entire world views, can change when another’s planets conjunct our Vertex or anti-Vertex. We may divide our lives into ‘before’ and ‘after’ this Vertex-significant other.

If planets square the Vertex angle, then the development of this planet is crucial to whether or not  I become aware enough (and brave enough) to meet my fate.  For example, if Saturn is square my Vertex angle, then Saturn development would open the gateway for Vertex-inspired experiences.  The more Saturn develops and the more we learn to use it constructively, the greater the possibility of Vertex experience.  This could happen natally or it could happen through a contact with another whose Saturn squares my Vertex angle.  If another’s Saturn squares my Vertex, their planetary development will affect my spiritual development.

Ultimately, interpreting the Vertex axis isn’t very different from interpreting anything else in the chart. Whatever house it falls in indicates the realm of experience the ‘awakening’ encounters will occur in. The sign describes the method/process of the experience and also the general flavour of it. The rulers of the Vertex axis play a  part, as do any planets conjunct the Vertex axis and the houses they rule.

It’s good to remember that the Vertex axis does work as a point of fate, but it can only allow experiences that reflect in the rest of the chart;  it opens doors to rooms we are not yet aware of.  It isn’t a magic wand, conjuring up what we wish for.  The Vertex impels us forward via the soul’s intention, but it cannot deliver what is not already there in nascent form.

You may think that the Vertex isn’t involved in your relationship, but look again.  Was the Vertex active in either of your charts on the day you met?  How about on your first date, the day you got married, or the birth of a child?  Is it active in the composite? Take a look.  You might be surprised.

    1. my vertex conjuncts my partner’s ascendant too. both our venuses are in scorpio. we’ve been together for years even if we are in a long distance relationship. he keeps coming back when i fight with him.lol

      1. Wow twiggy’s comment above my boyfriend I met in 2001 April 18th my vertex is on his and my ascendant is on his vertex and we’re both being a sin Scorpio same thing keep coming back and forth to each other for 15 years now

  1. I could not forget one man till now whom I met through facebook. We have talked but only for a very short time coz we have clashes of wills as our sun signs square each other, Leo-Taurus. I keep dreaming about him sexually. I found out that his Venus conjunction my anti-vertex, conjunction my north node and chiron as well. I feel like he’s my soulmate but he treats me so harsh.

    1. The Vertex is the magnetism, the pull towards soul discovery. What you have to discover is in the rest of the chart–this person is making you aware that you have the ability to allow yourself to be treated harshly. The Vertex is not all roses–we discover things about ourselves through Vertex relationships that are often unpleasant. In your case, with the NN and Chiron there, you have a long and painful process of self-awareness through intense relationship. Find out what you’re being asked to be aware of and move on.

  2. My recent ex and I had the vertex in Libra conjunct the dsc in our composite chart. In that chart, his natal Mercury made a conjunction by 1 degree and my natal Moon made a conjunction to the ASC. I think our composite chart was fairly concentrated; SN & Sagittarius stellium in the 8th house, Pluto/Saturn in Scorpio in the 7th house, Moon in 10th and Neptune in the 9th house. When we met I think our natal Vertices were activated given that:
    1) His Moon is conj. my SN, Uranus and Vertex in House 5.
    2) His natal ASC is conj. my progressed Vertex to the degree and in House 5.
    3) My natal Sun makes a tight conj. to his Anti-Vertex.
    4) Several of his natal placements trine my Anti-Vertex, but his natal Venus applies a square to it.
    5) My progressed Venus makes a tight conj. to his natal Anti-Vertex.
    6) His natal SN also makes a tight conjunction with my progressed Vertex as well as natal placements.
    7) My progressed ASC conjuncts his natal Vertex in House 8.
On a last note, I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but we also met after the solar eclipse this year in January whilst the transit of Venus in Capricorn made a conjunction to my natal Venus (aspecting our opposing ASC/DSC axis). Being with him opened me up like a flood-gate and never before had I been so disarmed. If only I could bring myself to trust in what he says, I felt that our relationship would’ve been a start to the kind of bond that I’m looking for. Thanks for the insightful details in the article, cheers. 🙂

  3. I have vertex in 5 degrees capricorn. The man I am in love right now has Venus 3 degrees capricorn. The truth is I really waited for him, dream and daydream about him all my life.
Funny thing is I am married to another guy and when 26 June eclipse hit my husband understoond about this feelings I did not cheat on him physically, but for me even in my mind it is real infidelity so we decided to separate.

With the man I love apart from this venus vertex conj. we have a lot of strong and I think soulmates aspects:
Saturn conj Asc, nodal axis on MC/IC, his moon opposing my Sun, his sun, mars, mercury stellium in my 4th house

  4. Good luck, Kelly. We all hope for strong contacts in relationships, but they always bring challenges. Vertex activity always leads us down the path to our true selves, even though we may not know the reason for it at the time.

  5. I have met a person whose sun conjuncts to my vertex. I daydreamed about him, I was so much in love with him and was affected by him emotionally.. I wonder if he is affected as well or is it just me who is so drawn…?

  6. Vertex relationships are usually not one-sided, but the Vertex is a highly sensitive point, like an antennae, (an antennae which leads you down your soul’s path), but it’s usually the Vertex person who has the more profound experience, Vertex-wise. The rest depends on the rest of the charts.

  7. Thank you alcuin9. Even though this affected the planet person as well, I should be the one who has to go through this karmatic situation, right? I feel I have to learn something from this man, but it just feels like I am stuck. I can’t move on because I feel there is something holding me on.

  8. Whatever is holding you on doesn’t really have to do with the Vertex. The Vertex angle, like the Asc/Desc angle, has to do with drawing experience. You have to look at other things between the charts to see what you have to learn and why it’s so compelling. Good Luck.

    Dawn

  9. Thank you.
Actually, I have my Nnode conjc his saturn and jupiter. My chiron oppo his venus and his chiron square my sun.
Are you able to read it throght email?

  10. Fantasy,

I can’t go any further with this in the comments section. You’re asking for a synastry reading. Please contact me if you’re interested.

      1. Popatial, some answers require time and space I cannot provide within the context of this forum. I try to be as generous as I can with my time, but some answers are too delicate and complicated to resolve within the space here, and require a look at the entire chart or charts.

  11. I met someone whose vertex conjuncts my DC, and my vertex conjuncts his MC. Do I help him with his career and he helps me with relationships? I think he is amazing and hope this turns into something real…

    1. Hi Julie,

Vertex/angle contacts can be very complicated. In general, these people bring us circumstances necessary to our growth, which isn’t always easy. I’ll be writing more on this in a future article, so stay tuned.

      1. Thanks for your response! I look forward to reading more about it! btw: I have to say that your website is amazing! I’ve learned so much from it. I can honestly say that I think it is the best astrology website out there. Thank you for all your knowledge and your incredible writing skills.

  12. could you explain what the vertex conjunct someone’s Saturn might mean? i have this with someone and my life will never be the same after we met, its so hard for me to remember who i was before we met. not usre if its Pluto conjunct their North Node though. thanks.

  13. Hi Ericka–Imagine someone’s Saturn falling on your Ascendant; you would really feel that Saturn, feel a sense of responsibility, feel the pressure to grow and change, and a sense of being bonded. When Saturn hits the Vertex, that Saturn does all these things, but on a deeper level–it hits you were you really live, and forms who you are, in your very essence. It can also cause you to rid yourself of any behaviours that weren’t conducive to your growth.

I’ll be writing more on the Vertex soon, and in the spring/summer will be offering classes on the esoteric angles.

  14. thanks so much for clearning that up! oh, now add a that pluto conjunct NN it is still intense connection at least for me. btw in synastry my saturn falls on their ASC! so i am glad our relationship we can grow and become better people. cant wait for your next writings on the vertex.

  15. Fascinating! Any comment on having the anti-vertex conjunct saturn + sun/moon midpoint in the natal chart? Oh, and the vertex/anti vertex squares NN as well. Yikes.

    1. These are complicated relationship signatures and should really be looked at within the context of the entire chart. However, if your Saturn is conjunct both the soli-lunar midpoint and the anti-Vertex, you are prone to being very serious regarding relationships, perhaps to the point where you avoid them entirely. You may be attracted to the Saturn in another person’s chart to help you fulfill your own lessons. There is a kind of all-or-nothing feel to this, and you may either be attracted to older/Capricorn types; you may be overly responsible in relationships and forget how to have fun. On the other hand, depending on the chart, you may be someone who is too frivolous about relationships and must learn to deal with the Saturn element. Relationships are the main factor for growth. When the Vertex squares the Nodal axis, we have very challenging situations come into our lives in a fateful and unexpected way; the purpose for them is to help us reach nodal balance. We will be forced into nodal growth, by hook or by crook.

  16. I just met someone who I appear to have a very powerful connection with. Many personal planets involved. One aspect I cannot find any info on is that my midpoint is conjunct his vertex. What could that mean?

    1. I’m assuming you mean your soli-lunar midpoint. Midpoints to points, no matter what they are, are not as active as a planet hitting a point. It’s a bit esoteric. There is a magnetism involved both with the soli-lunar midpoint and with the Vertex, so they would be drawn together, but the actual inter-action will come from the planets involved.

  17. What about two people who share the same exact Vertex, both in the 8th house? I just noticed that our composite moon is conjunct this point exactly.

Mine also falls on my moms ASC, and his falls on his moms Sun 🙂

    1. It’s very common to have Vertex connections in families, especially conjunctions. Sharing a Vertex that falls in the 2nd/8th houses means that both of you have issues surrounding possessions and resources that you need to work out together. When a progression or transit hits the Vertex, you will share it. Composite Moon conjunct the Vertex in the eighth conveys a deep intimacy, but that intimacy may be challenged by external forces that cause you to reassess your relationship. It’s possible that financial issues may come between you, or that there may be more of an emphasis on sex. It all depends on the rest of the chart and how much resistance is built in to the 2nd/8th house polarity.

  18. Both his Moon and his Jupiter will stimulate you to discover who you really are, but it won’t be easy for you to incorporate those qualities into yourself. His planets are teaching you to be more emotionally expansive, but there may be difficulties along the way, particularly if you ‘re the type who is more guarded.

  19. Thanks for the response! This is why I love astrology…YES, we both do seem to have 2nd/8th house issues to work out…

My north node is in the 8th/south node in the 2nd…

He has a scorpio north node which rules the 8th, and therefor, a taurus south node which rules the 2nd.

Our vertex/anti vertex is in the same sign as my nodes, and our conjunct asc/dec is in the same sign and position as his nodes.

Def feels like there is something karmic about this!

Thanks again for the input! 🙂

  20. Hello, i’m wondering about vertex aspects. i have looked a synastry chart with a famous actor and mine. His vertex (in his 7th house) conjunct my sun (in my 3rd house) in 0 degrees. Also opposed my mars retro in my 9th house, falling in his 1st house in 1 degree orb. Pretty tight orbs.. So, since he is famous and living in a far away country that there is no chance for me to meet, how could this vertex works in this one?…

    1. It’s obvious that the Vertex works most strongly with people who are actually in our lives; but inspiration can come from many surprising areas. Think of it this way, there are millions of people who are going to have this Vertex aspect with you. Millions. They aren’t all going to affect your life. However, because this actor has come into your conscious awareness, you are feeling an attraction factor. When people are in a public life, we can sense their charts, though they obviously don’t sense ours. However, it doesn’t have to be meaningless. If this person inspires you in some way so that you understand yourself better and are more true to yourself, the Vertex has done its job.

    1. We don’t actually feel the Vertex. It’s not like a planet, it has a very different energy. It’s a gateway, a way through. But you will feel the planet that affects the Vertex. When planets square the Vertex, we usually don’t understand the true meaning of that planet in our lives, and need to take it deeper. There may be unconscious issues surrounding self-esteem or values which need to be re-oriented. Often, if we have a planet square the Vertex, we will attract people into our lives who have that planet prominent either natally or by progression, and they can and will teach us what we need to know about that planet, either in a negative or positive way.

  21. Thank you very much for your answer, Dawn.I appreciate it. Actually since his exact birth time is given, i just wanted to check our synastry and composite and some aspects just caught my attention. Like we have a double whammy saturn/moon conjunctions and again double whammy NN/sun trines, his moon opposed my sun and my moon trines his sun etc. Also in our composite, saturn conjuncts moon, venus conjunct jupiter, and they are all making a grand trine with chiron with very tight orbs. Those just caught my attention as well as Vertex. But i know it shouldn’t be considered at all if someone is not a part of your real life. Thank you and keep up the good work 🙂

    1. Whether we are attracted to someone right next to us or far away and inaccessible, that attraction always reveals something about ourselves that we need to learn and experience. It’s not for nothing. All of these ‘relationships’ (defined very loosely) help us understand our inner selves, and are all important. The ‘reality’ doesn’t matter as much as the understanding. What is this chart contact teaching you about yourself? That’s what matters.

  22. First, I want to say thank you for taking time to read my comment and respond. Im having a hard time understand the Vertex. I have several planets transiting my Vertex at almost the same time in the 8 house of Leo. I have the Moon hitting it on July 31, followed by the Sun on Aug. 3 followed by Venus Aug. 6. Does this mean anything? I have no birth planets in that house or sign but do have those “same” planets in my 2 house of Aquarius. The Sun at 17 degress, Moon at 18 degress and Venus at 20 degress. My birth planets seem to be opposite the transiting planets in my Vertex. Will this effect me in anyway? Thanks for any light you can shed on this for me. Roy

    1. Hello, Roy. The transits of these fast moving inner planets are not all that spectacular–they will happen every year round about the same time, the Moon every month. At this time of year, given that your birth planets are opposite, it’s time for you to integrate any issues you have between the 2nd and 8th houses. When we come with a lot of planets in the 2nd house, we may feel that we have talents to develop but may not know what to do to bring them to the table and share them with others, which is what is required of us in the 8th. It’s possible that you will be inspired to use your gifts at these times, or get more of a sense of the direction you’re meant to go in.

  23. Thank you Dawn. You enlightened me about vertex. This month, my progressed Moon and Vertex is going to make a conjunction in 7th house (Leo). Is it significant? What would be the effects of conjunction of progressed Moon and Vertex?

    1. Hi Deniz. As always, with progressions, I can’t give a simple answer because there are no ‘cookbook’ responses to progressions. Much depends on what else is happening with the other progressed planets, whether the moon is making other aspects, etc. and then comparing that to the natal chart. What you can expect is a three month slice of time where you are invited to develop your best and most true self (one degree applying, one exact, one separating). Take advantage of any opportunities that arise at this time, because it won’t happen again for another 27/28 years.

  24. Thank you for responding back so promptly. I was sorta hoping that this transit would bring me a change, turn around in my situation. I guess Im back to square one. Im not going to worry bout it. Roy

  25. Hi Roy. We have to meet life halfway–if you make some changes, or change your intentions, the world will respond with change. You have to make room for change, too–create a space it can fill in your life. If you do, these transits to your Vertex will help you out. Keep your eyes open.

  26. Thank you, the thing is I have done “all” I can do for myself over several years. I just need a “trigger”, an activation or something to kick everything in my chart into motion. This is how I stumbled upon the Vertex, I thought this was the help I needed. Im all out of options on what to do. I need a kiss, a dollar, a trip, or something so to speak, to kick it into gear. Thank you for your advice….Roy

  27. The strongest connection I have ever felt is a man with his sun conjuncts to my vertex. I don’t know how he feels but he is always in my mind, I can never get over!! Also, I have met a man with his venus conjuncts to my vertex, but it is not as strong as the sun-vertex man. Maybe it involves the other aspects btw planets, but venus-vertex doesn’t mean as much as sun

  28. So does the venus-vertex do anything in synastry? Beside, the sun-vertex man had 2 grand trine with me, so that may be the reason for the strong connection..?

  29. Hello, fantasy–It isn’t only the Vertex involved. You have to look at what the rest of the chart is doing with your own chart. The Vertex acts on a soul level that is often not recognizable until much later, whereas general aspects between charts are what is active and understandable. The difference between Sun/Vertex and Venus/Vertex is that the Sun just seems bright and positive, and Venus/Vertex is about values and appreciation. It can certainly be stronger than a Sun/Vertex connection, if the right planets are in place with the Vertex. You can’t judge a relationship on Vertex connections alone.

  30. Thank you Dawn I will be on the look out. Over the last 2-3 years I have kept my thoughts positive and have done my very best to drew as much positive energy towards me as I can. Also I have done alot of work on myself. As I have already mentioned I just need a trigger or activation to release all the work I have done and have it illuminate my path. Thanks for helping me through these last 2 days. Roy

  31. Whats the difference between Sun conjunct/opposed Vertex? I had a relationship and in our composite chart we had Sun opposed Vertex. The relationship felt fated and it was going well but in time it turned out to be a nightmare.. I know we have to look at the whole chart, but still i want to learn if sun opposed vertex has a bad effect? Thanks in advance 🙂

  32. Thanks for your comment. Yes I guess you have to see the whole chart. The person with vertex- sun has more aspects than the person with vertex-venus guy, maybe this is why.. The other reason I am so obsessed with him is that I have my venus degree of 23.14 trines to his pluto 23.13, extremely tight trine and his pluto as well as juno also trines to my moon, venus and sun within tight degree. OMG, I don’t know how to explain this strong connection I have with him, if anyone has same experience, please share!

    1. The Vertex doesn’t really have to do with obsession. The Vertex is about that feeling of knowing that something or someone was meant in your life, but it doesn’t carry the same hunger and single-mindedness that obsession does. It’s a small difference, but an important one–when the Vertex is at work, things just work out. Outer planet connections bring obsession, hunger and longing into the picture.

  33. Hi Dawn, I have a quick question. What does it mean when planets are conjunct or conjunction? Is it when they are side by side with each other? Roy

    1. Planets are conjunct when they occupy the same degree of the zodiac. Closer is stronger, though you have a range of orbs depending on how important the planet is in the chart. A 5 degree orb on either side is safe, though you may stretch it for the Sun or Moon.

  34. Thank you, you’re the coolest. On the 17 of August, Mercury, Venus, and the Sun are in perfect harmony with each other at 23 degrees Leo.

  35. I hate to burst your bubble, Roy, but conjunctions can be far from harmonious. They have a lot of strength, and the strength can be unpredictable. (Conjunctions are considered a hard aspect, not a soft one.) On the 17th, the three inner planets are in alignment, all right, but Mercury will still be retrograde and they’ll be opposite Neptune, which is retro as well and dipping into Aquarius again. The Sun rules Leo, so the solar power will most likely win out over Mercury, but it may still be a day where we will be vulnerable to delusions (Neptune). So perhaps it will be a day better spent looking for inspiration and working in a creative way.

  36. Thanks much for your comment. It is interesting to hear that when vertex is at work, things should work out..

The person with sun conjunct my vertex, I would love to be with him as much as I am obsessed about him, but it seems like never meant to work out right, no matter what… I am not sure what it is. It feels like there is something that I have to straighten up in my life in order to be with him.

Hope the vertex will be “at work” soon, and be on my side s

    Hope

  37. Hi ! I My relation is just ended, with a lady. We were so close, we never experienced both such a thing…After 9 months she stopped the relation. She wanted more symbiose. I am complety depressed now. Her Vertex was close (3dgr) from my sun, her moon conjunct my venus on my SN…(karma?) her sun on my mars near her SN…her mars/merc on my NN…After 4 months now she met a guy, who happens to be an acquintance from me, do not know where she knew him from… !!! where she has his sun exactly conjunct her Anti-Vertex !! and similar soft contacts with moon and venus-mars…it looks like kindof the same relation, we (man) are both artists….We had a venus-mars opposition and they have a venus mars conjunction. He has his saturn/moon conjuction on her chiron…
It is so strange that she began this relation with a colleague since we had such great love….do not know what to think of it….

    1. Hello, Wim. Sorry about your break-up. It does sound as if your friend is attracted to certain types of energies in other people which show up again and again. Most of us are. We are attracted to the same astrological signatures, over and over. I have friends who only have gone out with Pluto types, or Librans. My own particular weakness in relationships is Mars in Cancer or a Moon/Mars conjunction. These things aren’t planned, but are representative of the energies within us and how strong they are in a chart. However, these aspects only show us a general colour, or potential. They aren’t who we are, but the building blocks of personality within us. The individual soul that expresses these energies is the real ‘us’, not the chart itself. We are the infinite space at the center of the chart, and capable of infinite expression.

These Vertex experiences tend to be intense and awakening, but not necessarily long-lasting. Figure out what you learned from your time together and you will find that it’s easier to move on.

  38. Thank you so much for all who shared and for this wonder
website. I am so relieved because of this vertiex anti-vertex conversation. I thought I was going crazy and now I can just move on and forget it. You made a big difference for me and I thank you. Now I can just get back to my regular old life.

  39. I found this article very interesting. I have just recently started talking to a man whose Venus is exactly trine my Vertex…I take it this will be a huge learning experience at the very least.

    1. Trines are quiet. They hum along in the background. The relationship will help you to discover yourself, possibly to appreciate yourself more, or learn more about your likes and dislikes. It may expand your cultural horizons. But don’t expect earthquakes–Venus doesn’t do that.

  40. Thank you so much for the post, Dawn! Would you perhaps have anything to say about the North Node conjunct Anti-Vertex in synastry, or Vertex, separately?

Very informative article 🙂 thanks in advance!

    1. The Node/Vertex connection can only really be examined (or make any sense) if we take rulerships into consideration. However, in general terms, it is a bit like Asc/Desc conjunct the Vertex, only on a deeper and yet more esoteric level. As the Node person moves towards their North Node, (if they do at all) it may stimulate the Vertex person’s deeper sense of ‘Other’ in terms of deep connections. The struggle of the North Node person to the North Node may help the anti-Vertex person understand what it is they truly desire, and what has been missing from their lives. The anti-Vertex person’s understanding of partnership may play a big part in the Node person’s growth. It’s easier if the Vertex itself is on the North Node, rather than the anti-Vertex; then these two people will grow together in often mysterious and inexplicable ways.

  41. Thank you so much Dawn! Someones NN conjoins my Vx in Cancer, falling in my 8th house – and having my sun there, too, it seems to really stipulate the feeling of being on the same ‘life path’ in many ways – but that’s just my thoughts! You were bang on explaining North Node and Anti-vertex connections, but, it’s also aroused many ambivalent feelings. Err, if you find it in your heart, could you pretty please elaborate in short what a Vertex, Anti-vertex conjunction to either Eros/Psyche would do? If you deal with the asteroids – I don’t have these myself – but it might be of interest to your other readers:)

  42. Hi Dawn! Great article about the Vertex and so glad you wrote it since I can’t seem to find a lot of information on it anywhere else.
“Vertex contacts usually bring forth the kinds of experiences that may be intense and life-changing, but often short-lived.” Does this mean that if I have vertex contacts with my SO (my Vx sq. his moon while his sq. my sun) we’re not “meant to” last? Thank you! =)

    1. No, it doesn’t mean you weren’t meant to last–but it’s no guarantee of longevity, either. People get very romantic about the Vertex, thinking it means ‘forever.’ It doesn’t. It just is what it is.

  43. Would this constellation be somewhat significant:
A´s vertex right between B´s NN and saturn within 3° to each and the whole thing conjunct B´s IC. NN and Vertex last degrees in capricorn, saturn placed early degree of aquarius, does it still “count”?
B´s progressed vertex right on A´s sun and venus when they met.
B´s vertex in conjunct 5° to A´s MC
    A´s moon squares B´s vertex.

    1. Vertex to angle is an important contact, but not as strong as angle/node (there is an article about angle/node on this site). If there is a planet there also, the angle/vertex contact magnifies the importance of that planet in the relationship. The moon square Vertex contact is very significant–the Moon person is teaching the Vertex person how to be more conscious and aware, especially about lunar things. The progressed Vertex is a wonderful timer for significant relationships.

  44. OMG!
I am living in Germany and beginning to dig deeper into relationship astrology and now getting and answer from half away around the globe (well, felt) I am so grateful. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and insight with us in such a
    generous manner!
    God bless you!

  45. I met someone who has his vertex opposed to mine, my vertex is in conjuction with his chiron and opposed to uranus ((ruler of his chart) and pluto. Waht can you say about this, specifically the vertex- antivertex conjuction? Thanks in advance!

    1. Having the Vertex ‘flipped’ is much the same as having angles flipped–one is going where the other has been, and they can help one another discover themselves. Chiron/Uranus is another matter entirely. If you’re born with Chiron opposite Uranus, you often feel you have a duty to perform in this life, only you struggle to find out what it is, and often don’t find out until the Chiron return is approaching. If it hits your Vertex, his struggle to find a place in the world will resonate with you, and possibly inspire you to do the same. With Chiron/Uranus opposite, we need to be of service to a greater need and a greater knowledge of some kind. We need to spread the word, to act as teacher and guide.

  46. Thank you for your reply, Dawn. Talking about the Vertex flipped. Is this an important aspect for a relationship considering they are at 1 degree and my antiVertex falls in his 7th house and his in my second house?Does this aspect give you the same feeling of knowing that something or someone was meant in your life?

  47. I’ve read this article a few times, the vertex really does have something special about it. Thank you for such an article 🙂

Could midpoints involving the vertex have some weight too (like someone’s planet conjunct the mars/vertex midpoint of someone else) or not as much?

    1. I don’t go as far as using midpoints with the Vertex. The Vertex is such a subtle thing on its own that the energy of the midpoints would be too refined to make a concrete difference. However, if one person’s planet squares the Vertex of another, that’s a different story.

  48. Hi Dawn!

What if my sun/moon midpoint is conjunct my anti-vertex in the 2nd house? AND what if.. my progressed moon, sun and asc are at that point now about to be triggered by this lunar eclipse at 15 degrees sag??

    1. Hi Hayley. Basically, I would say that a window is open for you to have someone new come into your life–or perhaps not someone, but something that will reveal deeper layers of the Self to you. Since all this has to do with your second house, it will cause a realignment of your value system. It’s also possible that the current values you are living by are not your true ones, and a new approach is necessary for both your values and your resources and talents. Eclipses bring a certain focus to an area of life–after all, it’s just another phase of soli-lunar activity. For you, this passage has to do with the integration of the creative aspect of the Sun in alignment with the conscious awareness of the Moon.

  49. to clatify…
My vertex is at 18 degrees Gemini In the 8th.
My sun moon midpoint is 18 sag .

My progressed sun, is at 15 sag
progressed moon and progressed Asc and Mars at 17 sag

Lunar eclipse on jun 4 is 15 Sag

and I’m Not in a relationship!

I know its hard to see with out the full chart… but this seems like a big trigger… should I get out and mingle more?

  50. thank you… thats a very cool way to look at it! With this Venus Rx I am looking very deeply at how I value myself, and thus want to raise the frequency and quality of the relationships I attract. I have had pluto transiting the second house for the last12 years or so… just about to leave next year, SO YES my values have been utterly transformed!

    thanx for the insight!

    1. It doesn’t have much power on its own, except that two people will identify with one another. Often, during transits or progressions, they will have experiences that will be mutual, similar, or bonding and they may feel as though they have found a life partner–or at least a companion.

  51. Saturn is conjunct my Vertex. Mars is Semi-Sextile my Vertex, too. How do I learn more about how this affects my spiritual ascendant’s journey?

    1. Impossible to tell without looking at the whole chart, NovLady. But pay special attention to the house that Saturn rules. It will bring you experiences that will guide you forward. And one of your life lessons is about learning to use Mars in a meaningful way.

  52. Another combo for you?
My Vertex is his Ascendant, and his Vertex is my Ascendant and his Sun is exactly the same degree to the seconds as my Moon?
(My Ascendant is conjunct Saturn and Chiron. So those two would be activating his Vertex?)

    1. Hi Laurie. This is a complex signature which would have to be analyzed well beyond the limits of this space. The tight Sun/Moon conjunction makes it feel as though you are a natural match, a yin and yang to one another. With the Vertex conjunct the Asc in a double whammy like this, it says, “my life experience affects your deepest conscious self and contributes to your understanding of who you really are.” And in this case, it goes both ways.

  53. My vertex is conjunct my wife’s sun in Libra, and my anti-vertex is conjunct her moon in Aries. While our four years together has quite passionate, it hasn’t been a walk in the park, in fact, we’ve been at the brink of separation on several occasions….but we just can’t seem to walk away. Before we met, she had an eight year on-and-off relationship with a guy who’s venus conjunct her vertex and vise versa. To make a long story short, she found out he was married, and even lied about his name(among other things). Anyway, she was already in love when the true story unfolded, and found it hard to walk away. Their relationship, despite the fact that it was based on lies and deception was a significant one.

My question is, does the aspect between my wife’s sun/moon and my vertex/anti-vertex have significant impact on our relationship/marriage.

    1. Hello, Jay. It can have a significant impact. Our Sun/Moon relationship at birth reflects our way of processing our life experience, how we move forward from the past into the future. There are a number of different personality types associated with the different phases. Your wife’s Full Moon (Sun/Moon opposition) makes her hungry for life experiences, and hungry to express herself. Their lives are often very dramatic, and their way of meeting the world is head-on. If your Vertex/anti-Vertex falls on this position, there is an intense contact and intimacy but at the same time she is shedding light on who you really are, and that may be uncomfortable for you. You may not want to be exposed in this way. You may feel as though her experience of life is taking you where you’d rather not go. You may not feel ready for the experiences and choices that she, instinctively, is asking of you. None of this is calculated but comes simply from the exposure of living your lives side by side. Sometimes, with the Vertex, we would rather hide and not let others see our delicate underbellies. But the truth is that they are not delicate at all, and when other people (whose planets hit our Vertices)reveal us to ourselves, it can be a wonderful thing. Difficult, as you said (because you are growing into your own truth) but wonderful.

  54. Hello

I would like to know the meaning of this combo conjunction in my natal chart – Vertex (8 libra),Mars (6 libra),Pluto (6 libra),Sun (29 virgo)?

This combo occurs in my 6th house, in sextile to Neptune in 8th house. Mars is the lord of 1th, pluto 8th house.
Does this combo influence my work and health or does it influence my 7th house issue? The lord of 7th house lay (Venus) in 6th house.

I have never noticed something significant happened in my life when any transit planet conjuncted or opposed this combo in term of meeting of significant person in my life. Now transit Uranus oppose it and Pluto square it. What does it mean? I am affraid nothing good.

Only fact I noticed last fifteen years with vertex: everytime any planet – outer or inter in my solar return chart was at my natal Vertex – I fell in love. It does not matter if it was only one-side or repeated from him.
I would be very grateful if you can help me to understand above mentioned issues. Thank you

    1. Hello, Monika. I’m afraid this is much too complex an issue to discuss in this space. The Vertex is a delicate thing and needs to be interpreted in context with the rest of the chart.

  55. “Relationships are the main factor for growth. When the Vertex squares the Nodal axis, we have very challenging situations come into our lives in a fateful and unexpected way; the purpose for them is to help us reach nodal balance. We will be forced into nodal growth, by hook or by crook.”
Thanks very much for the above inspiration comment, Dawn, it reveals the deep meaning about Astorlogy.

Please could you explain the Vertex and Saturn in the same degree as the Node in a natal chart – Vertex 25.28 Cancer, Saturn 25.31 Pis,N. Node Taurs 25.42

    1. I call these ‘hot’ degrees–when there are a number of planets at the same degree in a chart. What happens in practice is that, when anything in the current sky, or by progression, reaches 25 degrees–and I mean anything–it hits off all of these planets/points together, so that they are inextricably woven together, even if they aren’t in aspect. In this case, you’ve got a set of three sextiles. Sextiles provide opportunity and connection, so there would be a lively flow of exchange between the Vertex, anti-Vertex, Saturn and the North Node. If it weren’t for the Saturn, the effect might be so subtle as to go unnoticed, but with Saturn there all Saturn ‘issues’ would directly involve the Vertex and the Nodal development. In a funny way, this aspect is lucky because you don’t have to think about it. You will develop via Saturn whether you are aware of it or not.

  56. Its like you read my thoughts! You appear to understand a lot approximately this, like you wrote
the e-book in it or something. I feel that you simply could do with a few p.
    c. to pressure the message home a bit, but other than that, this is fantastic blog.
An excellent read. I will certainly be back.

  57. Dear Dawn,

I was here before…I did have a very deep encounter with a ladyperson…with Pluto transiting my Anti-Vertex…it took me really deep.
Ofcourse there were synastry-aspects which were exceptional as well.
My venus =SN conjunct her moon (tender and caring) >> opposite my mars conjunct her sun +SN…two fires, one flame…her Juno conjunct my ascendant and more…and than suddenly Lillith and Mars transiting her Uranus in the 5th ! and she knew that she had to break up…something which she said she never experienced before….after 4 weeks she wanted to come back, but I was so broken…she went into Pluto transiting her sun…which was at this time doing my mars…
    Love To All fellow-travelers !

  58. I am really impressed along with your writing skills as well as with
the format for your weblog. Is that this a paid topic or did you modify it yourself?
Either way stay up the nice quality writing, it is uncommon to peer
a great blog like this one these days..

  59. I think other web-site proprietors should take this website
as an model, very clean and wonderful user genial style
and design, let alone the content. You’re an expert in this topic!

  60. I’ve read almost every article involving vertex on internet, and have to admit that this is one of the best!
Vertex has turned my life upside down (in the most sensitive-loving-difficult way).
Deep from my heart i wished to love and be loved a lot, and it happened some time ago with a friend i know for 20+ years
and didn”t think that way for him.
The whole thing is really painful due to his life status, but i received what i wished for-that’s how vertex point works.
    Here is our synastry:
His moon conjuncts my vertex (0.95)
My sun conjuncts his vertex (1.44)
His vertex squares my uranus (2.03)
His vertex inconjuncts my neptune (0.17)
His neptune trines my vertex (0.68)
His pluto sextils my vertex (0.01)
My pluto trines his vertex (4.23)
His vertex inconjuncts my ascendant (4.00)
    Watch what you wish for…

  61. I met someone who’s ruling planet which would be the sun in her 10th house on the cusp of Taurus is conjunct my vertex in the 8th house. I fell deeply in love but she is gay and I just don’t understand. We are the best of friends but I want more. Am I just hopeless? Her anti-vertex which is in her 11th house in cancer is conjunct my mercury in my 9th house. Its 3 degrees apart so I’m not sure if it counts. Her sun and my vertex is one degree apart.

  62. Hello Dawn,
Any vertex aspects have effects on Synastry ? i meant, most of times i am reading ‘conjunction’ aspects. How about square and trines? theese will be effective as well in synastry?

    1. The strongest and most potent contacts are the conjunction, followed by squares. I don’t find the trines or sextiles very helpful at all with the Vertex, although you will always find someone who met someone or did something important when something was trine or sextile the Vertex. On the whole, the soft aspects aren’t potent enough to force the hand of the universe, unless there are other things in place.

  63. Very interesting, thank you for this! There is this celebrity I have been feeling so strongly drawn to and I don’t know why. I mean, I’ve never crushed this hard on anyone before, and certainly not someone I’ve never met who I’m not even really a fan of. I’m married as well so I keep trying to find ways to understand and get over it. My Vertex conjuncts his Pluto in Libra (6th house), opposite my Mars/Eros conjuncting his Moon in Aries (12th house). I just wish I could find more information about the vertex like what you’ve provided in this article.

    1. It’s very common to be attracted to people in the public eye. We broadcast our charts just by living–I personally believe that film, television, recordings, etc. magnify them. They give off an energy that gets enhanced by media (as do we all). Usually, you feel the same intense contacts that you would in a crush as you do in meeting an ordinary person. It doesn’t have to be anything special, like the Vertex. It could be as simple as Venus/Mars or Moon/Node.

  64. My moon at 15 virgo is in exact conjunction to a friend’s vertex. And, my Pisces Chiron and Jupiter are 5 and 4 degrees away from his anti vertex which is 15 Pisces and falls in my 5th house. We met a few times (definitely a strong and life altering experience for me as he is famous)… Just last night he reconnected with me after three years. I wonder if I wasn’t as open as I needed to be to get the spiritual lesson the first time we met and this is why we are reconnecting after so long. As well, my venus is conjunct (5 degree orb) his south node…. And, his Capricorn moon opposes my midpoint at 2 Leo (w/in a 5 degree orb). I was very surprised to hear from him last night, but in some ways I’m not surprised at all.

  65. I have just discovered your site and I would like to say that it is so beautifully written I can hardly get enough of it! I pumped onto it while researching vertexes as my natal vertex is going to experience an exact conjunction with a transiting venus and jupiter exact conjunction in the 8th house on the 29th of may and I was wondering whether you could shed any light on what this could mean? I am fairly new at astrology so any insight would be greatly appreciated 🙂

  66. Hello,
I would like to know the meaning of vertex square venus and vertex square vertex in synastry.
    Thank you in advance.

  67. I’m wondering about the degree of the orb. How close/far does it need to be to still have effect? My moon, 18 degrees Taurus, is conjunct potential partners anti-vertex, 11 degrees Taurus. Is that a close, or too wide of an orb?

    1. We usually want tighter orbs for the Vertex, but leeway is given for the Moon and the Sun. As always, the tighter the aspect, the more impact it has. A tight aspect is like an explosion, a far away aspect is like an echo.

  68. You are so right, Dawn. Actually, his Mercury/Mars is also conjunct my North Node, and recently I’ve become much more active, and have begun more actively asserting myself and trying to go after what I feel I need career-wise and health-wise (perhaps that’s my Mercury conjunct MC and Virgo Moon in 6th overcoming the Mars in 12th assertiveness issues), as well as spiritually (NN in Pisces?). I’m starting to think that having these aspects in synastry with this guy, especially since I don’t think I would be interested in him normally, is kind of the universe’s way of pulling me out of the funk I was in after I graduated from university. For some reason, he, or the way I see him in the movies at least, is giving me a firm kick in the direction I need to go. If that isn’t Vertex and North Node contacts at work then I don’t know what is.

  69. Hi Dawn,

My vertex is Gemini 12’37” and my Venus is Virgo 12’37” — a perfect square to the exact minute. What would this mean for me? Thank you very much!

    Vanessa

  70. I’m having a hard time with a particular guy, so much that its interfered with my current 6 year relationship. It’s painful because I’ve been crazy about him for the past two years and really want to be with him, but it’s a very complicated situation. Among other aspects, we share:

My anti-vertex conjunct his moon and venus
My vertex conjunct his north node
His Saturn opposite my moon and trine my sun
His Sagittarius stellium in my 12th house with sun conjuct my ascendant
Including a few asteroids such as Eros and Juno, we share approximately 18 different grand trines involving my Jupiter, mercury, and mc (conjunct his mars), his venus and moon, anchored by the north node vertex conjunction.

This man really effects me. Do these aspects seem very significant?

  71. Hi,
I recently discovered that I had a NN conjunct vertex-uranus connection with someone important. This happens in the 5th/12 house shift. What does this possibly mean?

  72. Hi Dawn! Can you help me figure mine out. Vertex /Nodes/Saturn (fated experiences/soul purpose) I got lost on the part about Saturn especially with mine conjunct my anti-vertex and conjunct his descendant? This is not clear to me. I am not sure what info you need? So here you go….
My sun is 21.31, My Vertex/Anti-Vertex is Scorp/Tau 5.40 -6th house, Saturn in Tau 6.34 is the apex of a yod with my Moon in Sag at 8.16 and Uranus in Libra at 5.29, my NN is 20.45 Pisces and Venus is 26.52 and Pluto is 27.07 both in Virgo. My Asc is Gemini 11.37.
The man: Gemini Sun/Merc 6 deg, w/Scorp Asc at 7.34, NN in Tau 25deg, His vertex/Anti-Vertex is Gemini/Sagittarius @22.21 in his 8th. His Saturn is 28 deg Pisces. Our Sun’s in each other’s 12th and a few other planets as well. Venus in each others 11th. I am sorry if I provided too much information, not sure what you need or don’t, in order to explain. Thank you in advance Dawn!

  73. Oh I forgot to add his Moon is 13.43, Uranus and Pluto at 15.29 & 15.48 all in Virgo. Are these squares, conjunctions, trines and sextiles to the Nodes, Saturn’s and Vertexes to far to impact? I tried to figure it out, but I’ll just wait for your response. Thanks again!

  74. Hi Dawn! Thanks for the quick reply!
Aww dang, that’s what I was trying to avoid…LOL. I knew I was being overly detailed, but nooo I just had to keep going didn’t I? I’ll look into getting a synastry reading from you. And yes, I love this site, very informative! I’ll re-read the info to see if I can get a better understanding, in the mean time…Keep up the excellent work and Happy Holidays to you and yours. 🙂

  75. “With Chiron/Uranus opposite, we need to be of service to a greater need and a greater knowledge of some kind. We need to spread the word, to act as teacher and guide.”
    (From your 72nd response above)

Wow Dawn, this is true for me and is exactly how I’ve always felt. I guess you can tell I’m a complete novice in astrology. I have Chiron in Aries 3.50 deg opposite my Mercury 3.30deg and Uranus 5.29 in Libra. Chiron opposing Mercury for me used to be something I struggled with (being very sensitive.) and I’m sure Saturn in the 12th and maybe the fact that my Libra Stellium/Aries axis is intercepted (probably all of the above). However, the older I got (as you can tell by my outer planet placements…lol) life had to teach me that in order for me to become fully free I had to first become fully transparent. In doing so, has taught me unconditional love and that which was bestowed upon me is what I share with the world.
Thank you for blessing me with your website and may God continue to bless you Dawn, as you continue to share your gift, love and light to the same.

  76. I have Sn conjunct vertex with venus square NN and anti-vertex. I also have chiron conjunct venus with someone. Does this mean a harsh relationship? We both have our nodes in the 6th/12th house.

    1. When the Nodes and the Vertex are in alignment, it doesn’t matter which way, it emphasizes the challenges of balancing the polarity of the Nodes. The Vertex is about inner authenticity; discovering who it is you really are, deep inside. Experiences challenging this authenticity will also cause the consciousness to evolve and grow. We will become more aware of how the genuine Self relates to others, and also to the lesser self. When Venus is squaring both the Nodes and the Vertex, relationships become of primary importance to spiritual growth. We will be challenged to learn how to love with depth and clarity, and to express that love in a genuine way. We will learn to put what we value at top priority, and make choices dependent on those values.

I have an article on Venus/Chiron here which you can find via the search engine on this site or by looking through the categories.

  77. So, does this mean I have to go through heart wrenching deep relationships to understand love and myself? I have venus square NN natally.

  78. I am so glad I found your article. I have a question. My husband and I both have our anti-vertex in pluto. He had an affair a few years ago with a woman who he had very strong synastry with, including double whammy vertex in pluto for both and his vertex in mars. I always wondered why he returned to me. Does the obsession of vertex in this cases ever go away. I am always thinking he is still obsessing over here. I can tell you the relationship changed him profoundly. He is a different person, much more loving.

    1. What you’re saying is that he has a Mars/Pluto opposition on top of his Vertex angle. The Mars/Pluto opposition becomes the key to his true understanding of who he is, what he wants, and how he goes about getting it: whether he is following his ego or his soul in his desires. He will be attracted to strong Plutonian relationships that will be crisis-oriented and force him to understand his deeper motives. I have no doubt that he was profoundly changed; we often are when we are shown the bare truth of our actions. When he learns that his actions must be soul-oriented, he will pursue what is deep and true over that which is ego-enhancing and grasping, wherever it takes him.

  79. My love interest has his Vertex conjunct my IC and my Vertex is conjunct his MC, one exact, one two degrees off. My Jupiter Pluto conjunction is also conjunct his Ascendant (2 degrees both) and his 4 personal planet stellium is conjunct my Desc, including Venus exactly. My ruling Planet Venus is conjunct his ruler of 7th Uranus in his 11th. He’s in another state and it’s tough being apart – am hoping for something permanent.

  80. I met someone who has Mercury/Chiron conjunct my antivertex opp Uranus conjunct my vertex. There seems to be so many connections in our charts including his venus, moon, mars conj trine my Venus Mars conj and double whamy Sun conjunct s.node and his Pluto conjunct my n.node. I was just wondering mainly about what the vertex synastry might mean. Just as I realised how much I felt drawn to him we started working closely together with him being in the managerial type role and I can’t see how we could have a relationship in the current situation working together as part of a close team and how aukward it could be and if it could be damaging to either of out jobs. Also I’m sometimes aware he’s 6 years older and has more work responsibility and wonder if im out if my depth. I’m finding it all very emotional and confusing at the moment!

  81. Thank you dawn- facinating article!

question: how would you explain the composite DC conjuncting one of the partners natal vertex?

    thank you!

  82. Hi there. My fiance and I have 5 total conjunctions to the anti-vertex and vertex in our synastry. There is obviously a lot going on here… I’m just not exactly sure what! I understand that you can’t reply to a list. All I ask is that you please discuss his anti-vertex conjunction to my ascendant and his vertex conjunct my chiron with me. Your help is much appreciated.

  83. Hi, I’m new to astrology and so far I’m very intrigued. 🙂
This is my case: In a synastry chart my Venus in the 8th house conjunct his Vertex in the 7th house, by 0 degrees. Venus trine Sun (double whammy), and my Venus is in his 7th house.
We haven’t met –he doesn’t know me yet– although I’ve seen him and I’m very attracted to him. Can anyone help with what this means? Thanks so much! 🙂

  84. Wondering about psyche eros conjunction in synastry if psyche is in retrograde…is the connection/feeling the same?

    1. Psyche/Eros is not always as romantic as it seems to be. Psyche is about enduring trials for love. When Psyche is retrograde, there is usually a lot of angst regarding relationship and the role it plays in life. The Psyche/Eros connection is about bringing Soul to the erotic, but usually at a price. If Psyche is retrograde, it may decide that the price is too high.

  85. A new guy I have recently been dating has his Pholus on my anti-vertex. If I can single out this synastry aspect from what I ve sensed from him so far, he seems to let go and enjoy himself and even if born and lived in another country he wears emblems and goes to events of his cultural heritage community. He also mentioned once on our date that he was celebrating the finish of a major work project and mentioned the expensive wine bottles he had been drinking with his colleagues. I don’t know yet how his pholus influence on me. I am wondering more I can expect from his pholus. Do I have to necessarily incorporate those traits in my life? I find his culture fascinating, and I respect him. I was attracted to him bc of his background and looks. That being said I am not so thrilled to become myself like him and start spending time and getting drunk with my own ethnic community. I would rather have my own life and see them folks once a year or so.
I am also concerned that even if our cultures are friendly towards each other, I might encounter some racism in his midst.
His Jupiter/Mercury is in proximity, 6 degrees from his Pholus and from my anti-vertex.
Apart the pholus/vertex conjunction in synastry, we have other pleasant conjunctions: his moon/venus/juno/ceres/eros on my asc/eros, his Mars on my chiron, his lilith/pallas on my moon etc. So far we have had only good experiences with each other, much a light hearted respite from my recent years of a previous battle ground relationship experience. He is very polite, composed, witty. Frictions have turned into jokes between us, but it s too early to tell. He is manly and makes me feel very feminine. I like his voice, his laugh, his smile. I was looking forward to him contacting me again, and when we met last time he told me for some reason he can’t get me out of his mind. It is a sweet & sexy connection. He always compliments what I am wearing, my hairstyles, colors, jewellery. He smiles especially when he stares at my heart-shaped brilliant pendant. We talk about music and design, etc.
He told me he has a girl, yet he still keeps visiting me every other day. We have met, daytime, evenings and past midnight, weekday and weekend. I attributed this delusional “impossible relationship” status to his neptune on my saturn. I m not the type to get into other s couple s business and make wrong choices, so I might have to end this before any of my deeper emotions get aroused and it goes past a spring fling. I told him that I am moving, and he said in that case he was going to miss me.
My previous relationship was with a man with his juno conjunct on my vertex, he seemed like a dream come true devoted partner I had longed for. Before meeting him I would laugh at married people, then 2 years later in the relation I ended up proposing to him. He stopped communicating abruptly with me after that, so I felt destroyed spiritually in a way. My friends and family had met him and we had a miscarriage. I had my MC on his vertex. So, sometimes the vertex is not so welcome. We had composite pluto/saturn/juno/DC conjunct on my sn south node and conjunct my asteroid Memory. We were very passionate, went through a lot together. He said he wanted to imprint his face on my mind. We broke up when there was an eclipse exactly on that south node conjunction point. After that he never mentioned “love” anymore. His chiron was conjunct my venus, too.
In my teens I had for years a crush on guy who now by astrology I just found he had his venus conjunct on my anti-vertex. It turned out, for years he was pretending to reciprocate my feelings, just to copy my assignments perhaps. He also had his chiron conjunct on my venus. I wanted to know what the deal was with him and to put peace to my feelings, so I started hanging out around his hang outs and one day I find him with his arm around a beautiful girl. A few days later, this guy with his venus on my anti-vertex, when we met alone he told me to never change myself and to love myself the way I am.

  86. Hi Dawn I hope you enjoyed your time off earlier in the month!

In your above article you wrote:

“The exception comes when we have our own planets on the anti-Vertex; another person’s planet or midpoint that conjuncts the Vertex affects the polarity point of the anti-Vertex planet. It makes the Vertex a very active place.”

I wanted to know if you could elaborate on this. Do you mean it makes the vertex point even more active than usual in synastry or in general? Have you found other polarity points to work like this when the primary point has planets associated with it?

    1. Usually, people with planets on the anti-Vertex are very self-contained, especially if it’s the Sun or Moon. They are content with their own company. However, if someone’s planets ride the opposite end of the Vertex, it can cause the person to have surprising bouts of self-development because of the polarity point being activated. The polarity energy and the Vertex/anti-Vertex become one energetic pole affecting the Vertex person. And no, the other person does not feel it strongly. The Vertex is primarily felt by the Vertex person.

  87. The vertex seems to work well with asteroids too. I’ve got nothing to say about partnerships. I was severly bullied almost all of my life. I always wondered which constellations could show this in a natal chart. Now I think that this topic is shown by the tight conjunction of the asteroids Apollo and Toro and my vertex. This and my Mars (and more planets) all in my Seventh. Can this show bullying?
If I’m right with this, then what would the conjunction of Chariklo with my anti-vertex mean?

  88. Hi Dawn

    My vertex is 1.13 Scorpio
His saturn and pluto 28 Libra.
Is it a conjunction? If yes what does it mean…

    Thank you

  89. 1. Vertex: According to Lang-Wescott Toro represents brutality, Apollo shows where lessons are repeated again and again. Although I wonder how brutality can be a lesson, something simple like Mars in 7th isn’t enough for an explanation, because then at least one twelveth of all people would have to go through such an experience. But the vertex could be that important? I wouldn’t have taken notice of Apollo or Toro if they wouldn’t be tightly conjunct my vertex. I also wouldn’t have taken notice of the vertex, because it isn’t activated otherwise.

    2. Seventh house: Besides the vertex, there also “live” my Pluto, Uranus, Venus, Mars and the asteroids Pallas, Psyche, and Ceres. (These are only the asteroids, which are often considered as important, but there are more.) Libra is enclosured in my Seventh. Perhaps some people would like to see many close relationships from a packed Seventh, but I don’t have them and never did have them. It is also the house of enemies, so I can read it as many enemies. What can I not read here?

    3. Anti-vertex: In the case of centaurs nobody dares to contradict Zane Stein. He sees Chariklo prominent in the natal charts of scientists and science-fiction authors. Well, I like science-fiction, and I studied biology. Zane Stein called his office “Chariklo school of Archetypal Astrology”, so Chariklo could also be related to astrology. But is Chariklo conjunct my anti-vertex enough for being successful in these fields?

Now I discovered that my anti-vertex is conjunct the exact degree of the exaltation of Venus and receives a quinkunx (with almost two degrees of orb) from my Venus. There is nothing else to activate my anti-vertex conjunct Chariklo. I wonder whether this is enough influence for a career in her field(s).

Perhaps also interesting, what Aubyanne in that forum:
    http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum35/HTML/002851.html
    has discovered about Chariklo.

  90. Can someone tell me if an ASC and Vertex conjunction in synastry must be exact. My boyfriend’s Vertex is 5 degrees Capricorn and my ASC is 2 Degrees Capricorn. My Vertex is 13 Leo and his ASC is 16 Degrees Leo. It seems many of our conjunctions are a 3 degree orb. Is this not exact enough. We are having problems and on the verge of a break up, I am madly inlove with him and cant deny our intense attraction but he is pulling away from me at the moment. I cant understand why he is able to let me go, I feel like we are beyond soul mates and I know he did in the beginning but something happened. My North Node 14 degree Leo is also conjunct his DC 16 Degree Leo (2 degree orb) Mars oppose Venus (3 degree orb) Venus conjuct Vertex (3 degree orb) and many more. I am just wondering if these need to be exact to be more powerful. Thanks so much for any comments !

    1. Lily, these orbs are considered close. They don’t have to be exact. The angles are attraction, the Vertex feels like destiny, Nodal contacts feel fated. No wonder you are so involved. However, even intense aspects like these are at the mercy of progressions, transits, and other aspects in the natal chart.

  91. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you so much for the clarification. I was not sure if they had to be exact. I am so heartbroken. I know he loved me and I can still feel it but something is holding him back, something is stopping him. I know our progressed planets looked better when we first met. They are not as good now. In fact, his progressed Venus was conjunct his natal Uranus when I noticed his feelings changed. It has now moved, but I think its too late. I just want us back. Thanks so much for the clarification Dawn.

  92. Hi Dawn

My moon is exactly conjunct my anti-vertex and you’re right in that I am quite self contained.

I had a brief relationship with a guy who’s Sun (& mercury, neptune) oppose my moon exactly. So our sun/moon opposition is along my vertex angle.

We are still in each other’s lives more as friends but I can’t let go. Do you think this relationship could have affected him as profoundly as me?

My Mars is also conjunct his North Node exactly..and a lot of mutual Saturn….I think he got spooked..

    Thanks
    Helen

    1. It’s your Vertex, and that’s why you felt it so intensely. Especially with the Moon on the anti-Vertex, relationships are often karmic, which means nothing more than something needs to be worked out between people. Perhaps he felt that and didn’t want the responsibility–many people run away when they sense karmic attachments. Also, Neptune makes it all very slippery. I would suggest that he was not all that he seemed. More than suggest. Mars/North Node can be felt as very aggressive and is often uncomfortable. And Saturn–well, we know the Saturn stories.

  93. Thanks for your reply, Dawn. Yes he wasn’t all that he seemed, he drank more than he let on for example – his natal sun, merc stellium with neptune I wonder. But his heart was in the right place, he just had a few demons.

The Mars NN conjunction is in cancer so maybe that’s less aggressive as we’ve managed to carry on a relationship of sorts, sometimes friendship and sometimes more. Its that pesky Neptune of his again isn’t it – disolves boundaries!! It’s tightly square my sun, as well as opposite my poor moon! Thanks, Helen

  94. Hi,
I read in the article that anti vertex is more strong than vertex.
I have sun and moon conjunt anti vertex with someone and also moon conjuncts north node. What does it mean?
    Thanks!

    1. Usually contacts to the anti-Vertex, especially Sun, Moon and Venus aspects, indicate karma and prior knowledge. There is often a sense of responsibility for the other.

  95. Hi Dawn,

My Venus (5th house) conjunct my Vertex (5th house) and at the same time my Uranus(5th house, natal) conjuct venus and this happens with Neptune(5th house, natal) too. What does this mean?
    Thanks
    Georgia

    1. So basically you have a Venus, Uranus, Neptune conjunction conjunct your Vertex? Unusual, surprising, and often romantic or illusive events will cause you to understand the deeper recesses of your own personality.

  96. Hi Dawn, great article thanks!
I recently finished (though it doesn’t feel finished in a karmic sense or perhaps physically) a relationship where he moved a great distance, left a life, job etc to be with me then abruptly decided to move back to his original life after a year. Saturn is conjunct his Sun currently but that aside I was pondering the vertex as I really hadn’t given it much thought. Ours both trine exact. I couldn’t find any information on vertex trine vertex. I wondered if you had any thoughts. Thanks in advance!

  97. My vertex squares the nodal axis of a person who is very important to me. Does the square aspect indicate attraction on both sides, and is it significant?

    1. It doesn’t necessarily imply attraction. Once the relationship begins, it can be challenging in a good way. One person’s spiritual development affects the other’s feelings of authenticity. But attraction belongs to the angles.

  98. I have anmig Anti-vertex connetio to a guy and it really feels like we have kown each other for years. My sun is conjunct his Anti-vertex and also, His sun is conjunct my Anti-vertex!
(we have other great synastry aspects too)

We met each other “out of the blue” when we had been assigned to a group project at uni this March. We have been working on other projects as a group the whole spring and started to become really close, the sexual tension between us is of the charts! . But its impossible for us to be together really. We have very different religions so its not possible in reality. ButI feel a strong connetion and really care for him.

  99. Dear dawn

I have Sun in 0 Leo natally opposite Saturn 3 aquarius . My bf has Vertex in 7 degree leo.

Can i consider the opposition to be within orb of his vertex / antivertex? Is4-7 degrees to wide

  100. Hello!

Thanks for the information you share…

I am looking forward to have an answer regarding a conjunction I have with the persona I like (we have been getting known each other for a month, we are in different countries).

Her vertex is in Libra 5°, my vertex is in Libra 5°.
Her mars and Jupiter conjunct my sun and moon (all libra).
Her pluto conjunct my venus, Jupiter, north node (all scorpio)
    Her ascendant (aries) conjunct mine.

My doubt is about our vertex but I wanted to mention others.

Please, could you help me? What does this conjunction mean?

PS: she is a female, so am I.

Looking forward to read from you.

    Kind regards 🙂

    1. With the Vertex conjunction, there is a deep affinity and understanding about who we really are deep inside. However, while inclined to relationship, there is no guarantee. Vertex relationships are usually meaningful, but notoriously short.

  101. Dear Dawn,
I cannot comprehend how I feel about finding . It’s opened a gateway of information that beyond anything I could ever imagine existed. I can’t believe I’m writing you but I turned 19 this year and for the past 3 years I have been trying to find out the deeper significance of the Vertex and you have a Q&A on it.

If I may ask…I’ve been having these heart opening dreams

  102. Hi Dawn,

I was so sorry to hear about your mother. But also incredibly impressed by your strength, wisdom and love in coming to terms with her illness. It was moving and beautiful to read.

Would you have any thoughts on Mercury/Pallas conjunct my vertex, and Mars retrograde conjunct my antivertex?

What about an antivertex synastry with someone in which their Mars (non-retrograde) was exactly conjunct my Mars?

Thank you so much. All my best to you and your mother.

(Please ***ONLY*** read this part if it’s helpful – skip it if not: I don’t want to bog you down in aspect soup!!!!!!!: Mercury rules my asc & mh; Mars rules my 8th. Vertex itself is 6th/Pisces; its ruler Neptune is exactly conjunct my ic.)

  103. And what about such case: my Vertex conjunct his SN and Sun, his Nn conjunct my Antivertex and Phollus? We have some other aspects (my Mars trine his Venus, his Pluto trine my Sun and square Venus, lot of Saturn aspects from his Saturn to almost all mine personal planets) but this one aspects and conjunction of his Chiron and BML to my Nn – those one makes me like “oh hell…”.

  104. Dear Dawn,
What can you say about my vertex 8 house, Taurus exact conjuction with his South node, fifth house? He has also natal conjuction of vertex and Neptun in his fifth house. And very fast, sudden begining of our love was when Sun was direct transiting my vertex.
Simple, my question is meaning of exact conjuction of vertex/SN and antivertex/NN in synastry?

  105. I’ve Vertex conjunct Pluto and Anti-Vertex conjunct Jupiter in my natal. What does it mean for me?

Also in Synastry, his Vertex conjunct my MC and Anti-Vertex on my IC. Are these difficult aspects and how do I interpret them?

  106. Hi,

Does Vertex connections work only through conjonctions or squares, trine and sextiles work as well ?

I’m involved in a long-distance relationship with someone I’m slowly falling in love with and my Vertex square his Venus and his Saturn… it’s weird to get attached to someone you don’t meet on a daily basis… and with the current situation it’s even more complicated… it’s a Plutonian relationship… and the attachment I feel causes a lot of suffering.

  107. An interesting vertex synastry with myself and another:

-Our Vertexes are conjunct, very tight orb of two degrees. House 5, Sagittarius (for both of us). We met long distance, online. We met once in person.
-Her Vertex is conjunct my Juno
-Her Anti-Vertex conjunct my Sun and Moon mid point exact
-My jupiter trine her venus, Jupiter, Juno, and North Node (wider orb)
-My jupiter conjunct her Saturn (less than one degree)
-Ascendants conjunct in less than one degree, my ascendant conjunct her mars in two degrees
-Her sun and moon in opposition to my Sun Venus midpoint within one degree

The pull is strong, getting her out of my head is a challenge. We keep in touch but circumstances are what they are right now. Curious about a neutral take.

  108. Hi Dawn,
This is a really amazing thread. I have been studying a chart I have with someone for a while and I am still trying to determine if it is destined or if I need to run. His Jupiter and Anti- Vertex are both conjunct with my Ascendant at 0-1 degrees 1st house, Pisces. Also my NN is conjunct his Saturn in cancer, 0degree, my 5th house/ his 6th. It’s the Saturn that confuses me. I definitely felt the fated connection but I don’t understand if the connection helps me reach my North Node or blocks it. Any insights? Thanks
