Thanks for your thoughtful feedback, JoAnna.

We're going to get into the Nodes a bit more soon. The Nodes are about where we've been (South Node) and where we're going (North Node). They're about the way the Moon and the Sun interact. When we have a planet square the Nodes, that energy needs to be incorporated into our consciousness in order to move forward and make certain that our Nodes balance. Here, Jupiter in the third in Aries is about discovering your own wisdom and putting it into place in your everyday thinking (much as you said above). Time to walk the talk. Studying strology is a perfect way to fulfill the expression of that third house Jupiter, particularly as it's conjunct the Moon (the Nodes are lunar Nodes).

Wow. Thank you Dawn. Lots of light bulbs going off! I'll take a stab at sharing here a bit of personal reaction in case it helps anyone else...Not sure I can speak clearly to the light bulbs quite yet! Still digesting...

First, you have articulated--wow, exactly-- a core life-theme; that being the "where" of a huge amount of resistance/blockage/struggle/wrestling and fear occurs (aka energy drainage) and the ensuing relentless questioning and self-flogging "why?why?why? WHAT is my problem?" (aka more energy drainage) i.e. my 10th/5th. There is SO much lurking there but to access it? Really, wow...exactly as you said...resolve 2nd/8th and/or 3rd/9th and accessing my 5th/10th becomes easier. I've been experiencing that in the last 5-10 years....but that learning curve/resolution is not complete. But finally...lots of solid movement in that direction!

And it seems this connection relates to my life-long confusion of "how can I have Capricorn rising?" (my extreme discomfort with and somewhat of a true lack of interest in worldly ambition so often associated with Capricorn)

Secondly, what you stated about the nature of the conflicted energy in the 2nd/8th and equally in the 3rd/9th (if we use Koch) being the ...hmmm?.... "channels"? or "sources"? via which said conflicted/rough energy is born and moves and eventually dumps the struggle into the 10th/5th. Very interesting that, ultimately, whether Placidus or Koch, it all dumps back to 10th/5th anyway---just routed a bit differently. Wow. Lots to digest. Both 2nd/8th & 3rd/9th conflicts as you described make sooooo much sense to me based on my life experiences.

The suggestion of asking whether others in my life see me as more 2nd/8th or 3rd/9th is interesting because indirectly that has been done many times over this decade, although the question not exactly being phrased in terms of astrological houses! I'd have to say responses I've gotten from people I'm close to would reflect that both locales for chiron, 2nd &3rd, apply equally when we're talking about my relationship with myself. There's always a response of surprise and even shock about my lacks and blindness regarding myself which really fit what you describe as chiron in 2nd or in 3rd house....and yet when talking about my relationship /roles with others, I'm 8th & 9th all the way. My friends call me words that fit both those houses...I'm the counselor, the teacher, the priestess, the shaman, the psychologist, the perspective-adjuster... for them. For me? ha. Over the last decade as I've learned to (or with me it's often that I'm breaking down and been forced to go outside myself) to open up or reveal or share what's going on and receive advice or perspective-- I constantly (constantly) hear "HUH?? Uh... what??? JoAnna but YOU are the one who taught me that/showed me that/helped me with that/did that for me/said that...etc" And there's always this kind of awkwardness because I don't get or apply or know for myself or my life so much of what I've given out to others....

Well, I used to be a lot worse. I'm much more aware now and coming to figure and have a presence in my life. It's still can be very difficult at times depending on the subject area and I'm often confused and second guessing... yet for someone else? I seem to have this uncanny ability to deliver a bull's eye of what's needed on a psycho-spiritual plane with a bit of practical application thrown in.

Anyway, just what came up for me on first read. I'll be digesting and re-reading. Thank you again. I know there's more layers to all of this...

I think I understand why astrology is a good vehicle for one with a 3rd house Jupiter, but why especially with an exact square to nodes?

Thank you again Dawn for all the posts. This site is full of teaching and I'm learning a lot!

Placidus is more popular in Europe (astro.com, Astrodienst, is based in Switzerland), while Koch is gaining over here in the states. There is a bit of a brou-ha ha because Placidus gives more uneven house results at the extremes of latitude. I don't have a problem with that, I think certain houses really are emphasized at extremes of latitude. It's horses for courses. The main thing is to be consistent until you feel very sure of a house system. Then you can play around to see how they compare.

Honestly, I prefer using different angle techniques rather than fiddle with house systems. For example, try taking the degree of the Ascendant and dividing a chart into equal houses by that degree. Add transits and you have something very interesting...

I've been mostly without the net for the past week and missed reading your blog. It's good to have the net again!

This post was very helpful. I wonder about the house systems (?). I use Placidus (because it's astro.com's default).
