Private Lessons on Interpreting Secondary Progressions

Dawn Bodrogi February 1, 2010

For a long time now I haven’t been happy with the way secondary progressions are taught. Few have access to the big schools. Most students are self-taught, and there are only a couple of books out there that illustrate the basics and none that show you how to put the information together. I know there must be some very good teachers out there somewhere, but I haven’t met them and I haven’t met any of their students.

Secondary Progressions are absolutely crucial to any chart interpretation. They’re the ‘why’ behind the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of the transits. Without a correct interpretation of secondaries, we have no focus, no perspective on our personal development nor on our spiritual evolution. For more details on what secondary progressions are and an overview of how they operate in the chart, see the post on The Progressed Chart Confusion.

I’ve been teaching classes in secondaries for a while now, but I’ve come to the conclusion that the two-day classroom situation is not the best teaching format for this subject. First of all, most students have a lot of questions about secondaries. It’s hard to find good information and what is out there is often dated, overly technical, and focused on prediction. Secondly, there are a lot of misconceptions about secondary progressions–my favorite one is that the slower moving planets don’t matter–and how they relate to the natal chart. Sometimes, with classes, by the time you get around to correcting everyone’s misinformation, there is little time to actually learn the techniques of interpretation. Thirdly, there is just too much technique to absorb in two chunks of time. You need to play with secondaries to really ‘get’ them.

I’m now offering a series of personal lessons on how to read and interpret the secondary progressed chart. This will be a series of five structured classes for $175, beginning some time in February. There will be one lesson per week at a time to be mutually arranged.

Lessons will be tailored to the ability of each student, but in general will be as follows:

Lesson One: Overview of Secondary Progressions, the difference between secondary and transiting aspects, the Progressed Angles and their rulers

Lesson Two: Interpreting the Progressed Sun and the Progressed Moon; relating progressed houses to natal, aspect measurement and orbs of influence.

Lesson Three: Inner Progressed Planets and Progressed Aspects. The difference between aspects to natal and progressed positions.

Lesson Four: The Outer Planets in progression, retrogradation via progression, the Nodes and Vertex

Lesson Five: Putting it Together: Relating the progressed chart to the natal, transits to progressed chart

I won’t be able to take on that many students at any given time, so if you’re interested please let me know early.

The lessons will all be done by phone. I will send charts ahead of time, but the student’s own charts and charts of friends, family and favorite celebrities (if there are accurate birth times) can also be used. (It’s good to see progressions in action.)

Each lesson will run an hour. The five lessons will give you a comprehensive background, and should put you well on the way to interpreting secondaries accurately and using them to focus on what is really important in the chart at the current time. The focus, as always, will be on learning from the chart what is most needed in terms of a client’s spiritual development. Dane Rudhyar’s book on the soli-lunar cycle is required reading (at your own pace), and I will send some material via email.

I can only take on a limited number of students at any given time, so if you’re interested, please email at alcuin9@gmail.com. Needless to say, an adequate working knowledge of natal astrology is necessary as a prerequisite.

I will be offering, in the near future, classes on reading the progressed chart in terms of relationships–timing for relationships, relationship compatibility and attraction, and arising issues and problems that can be seen in the progressed chart. Due to the level of expertise required, the series of classes I’m offering now will be a prerequisite to the relationship classes.

The $175 dollar fee can be paid either at once or in two installments of $100 and $75, via Paypal.

Looking forward to meeting you and working with you all.

Dawn
