This was really surprising in a good way. I have a friend with who's Saturn makes sextile to my Venus. I liked him since the first day we met, but we don`t see each other often. It's strange because when we see each other it's like we have been friends forever, he acts like he likes me but is shy to do anything about it - he actually don`t have a problem having any girl he wants and he knows what to do there, but with me he doesn`t make any move and I was starting to think everything is in my imagination. We have also Mars/Moon trine and a lot of other aspects which are considerd for love aspects. My venus is in his fifth house and his venus is in my fifth house in the synastry. I don`t know after I read this what to think .. it's been maybe a year since we know each other and he just likes me, like from a far :) I hope this Saturn/Venus sextile is what makes him act this way :)

So infomative and enlightening. Met a guy on facebook when the sun transited our Saturn (him) Venus (me) conjunction. We also have my Saturn square his Venus and I could go on and on we have an incredible amount of synastry aspects. Anyway, he's married so we have never slept together, in fact only met once in the last year but I consider him by boyfriend and vice versa - we chat online several times a day and he calls me every morning. Our relay has gotten less and less romantic but we are "glued" to each other. I'm single but feel totally "possessed" by this guy - but I love it! My Pluto/Venus/Mars stellium are conjunct his Sun/Moon/Saturn stellium.

Interesting and useful, again :)

I've been reading your blog since last year, I definitely like your style, I agree with the most of the ideas you have been talking about and I have a website about astrology in Bulgarian as well.

So my general question now is may I translate sone of the articles.. maybe not exact translation every single time, but the representation of the original idea with some additions and notes because of the type of users of my site; but every time with link to the original article and with author mention, of course?

Greeting from Bulgaria, Vladimir Komarov

Hi, Mia--

Any 'double whammy' (which is a term astrologer Stephen Arroyo invented) will be a dominant force in a partnership. If you have both in hard aspect, the struggles between Saturn and Venus might be emphasized--there might be more repression of good feelings and lack of appreciation on both sides. However, there is no substitute for going back to the individual charts and seeing what both Saturn and Venus are doing. You can't take them out of context. If Saturn and/or Venus are problematic in the natal charts, you can't expect them to suddenly 'get better' in synastry. The contact will be part of the challenge, and will encourage growth, for better or for worse.

Hi alcuin9,

This was a very interesting article. I was wondering what you might think when Saturn is in aspect to Venus from both sides: Person A's Saturn is Square Person B's Venus and Person B's Saturn is Opposite Person A's Venus. Something along those lines.

Thanks again! Wonderful article

Thanks, Gavin. It seems as though we're living in an age where personal responsibility is seen as a burden, rather than an honour and spiritual duty. Saturn gets the brunt of this, because everything is blamed on the world 'out there' which, in its mundane guise, Saturn represents. The internal and external worlds must meet in order for there to be any kind of personal peace and authenticity, and Saturn is the one who gives us the opportunity for that meeting. It is also the place where we find enough strength to create our world. I'm going to be writing a follow up series on the magic inherent in the Earth signs soon. You can be sure that Saturn and Capricorn will feature.

It seems to me that most people dump on Saturn (and the outer planets) because they won't or don't know how to take responsibility for their lives and creating their own reality. It just seems easier to them to blame their birth chart, which to me is a pretty neanderthal approach, (something I was guilty of myself in my early years of studying). I welcome more articles by astrologers along these lines. As an astrologer I have the perspective that there is never anything negative in a birth chart....I see it as chosen by the wisdom of our spirit...it may entail challenges and difficulties we have to go through in childhood, but seen in the context of a full, well-lived life those challenges are truly alchemical and can lead to great wisdom and consciousness. Thanks Dawn!

All synastry is complex and no one aspect can be taken out of context. Venus/Saturn will certainly provide a glue, even if there are other difficulties in the charts. Mars-Saturn is another thing entirely; Mars/Saturn can be very difficult in hard aspect. There usually is a lot of tension running under the surface, the goat and the ram going head to head. It's hard to get Mars and Saturn to approve of one another. Moon issues are usually to blame when feelings are oppressed. Venus is more about self-worth.

But comparing chart inter-aspects is the next to last step in synastry. It's more important to analyze the charts for relationship signatures (what kind of partner they need) and capacity for relationship and relating before you compare the two charts. That's what we cover in the synastry class.
