Synastry Studies: Rethinking Venus/Saturn

Synastry Studies: Rethinking Venus/Saturn

Dawn Bodrogi August 3, 2010

Venus/Saturn, In my advanced synastry class, we go beyond traditional aspect comparisons and learn to look at individual psycho-sexual dynamics to determine why we attract the partners we do.

One of the things that always evolves from the class is how active and vital Saturn is in chart interactions. Most people approach Saturn in synastry as a necessary but bitter pill that must be swallowed in order for there to be some kind of longevity in the relationship. Even if we don’t look at him with dread, we furrow our brows when we notice where he falls. Saturn in Venus/Saturn imagessynastry gets blamed for all kinds of things–shattered illusions, betrayals, power struggles, abandonment–that don’t belong on his square shoulders at all. His glamorous outer planet brothers seem to get away with murder, and never take on that kind of flak. It always amazes me how often students dump on Saturn placements, when most often it’s Uranus, Neptune or Pluto who deserve the blame. But honestly, given the choice of an aspect between charts, I’d take, say, Moon opposite Saturn way before I’d take Uranus, Neptune or Pluto there. Saturn can be reasoned with. Not like the killer trio. Saturn needs some new PR.

One of the reasons we abhor Saturn is that he doesn’t let us get away with anything. In this, he is definitely the strict parent who knows us inside and out, especially when we tell him we’re going to the library when we really have plans to stay out way past our bed time. Saturn is the one who pushes us to work harder when we feel like being lazy. Saturn is the one who nags us about the right things at the right times. Saturn can behave this way in relationships, too, and it takes a very mature individual to appreciate it, especially if Saturn is acting out of genuine regard and not just projecting his own issues onto us.

Saturn is diligent. If we ignore what he tells us and what he expects of us, he will wait and bring us the same lessons later, only this time it will be harder, because our behaviour has become more entrenched with time. Time. Now there is a good Saturn word. Saturn knows that we only have this one life (as far as we know for sure) and the clock is ticking. There are things we need to accomplish, things we need to learn. Tick tock. Tick tock.

When Saturn is working well, he works hand in hand with the Moon. This is the natural cardinal pairing of Cancer/Capricorn, which is as natural a partnership as Aries/Libra. Cardinal signs initiate, and one of the things they initiate is partnership. Moon/Saturn also represents the ‘other’ angle, the MC/IC, which is the spine of the chart and crucial in partnership. (See the series on the MC/IC, and Beyond Mom and Dad, Saturn as a Relationship Planet.) Moon/Saturn is how we fashion our consciousness, our raw psychic material, into concrete accomplishment. Moon/Saturn hard contacts within a natal chart are so painful because we sense that what we have, what we were born with, is not adequate enough for us to create what we want. We feel we are hobbled before we begin the race. It takes a lot of inner work, and a lot of interaction with the outside world, before the two can work together.

I consider all of the rulers of the cardinal signs relationship planets. Not that the other planets don’t affect partnerships–they do, intensely. But the ‘prime movers’ of relationship are Venus, Mars, Moon, and Saturn. (This is very clearly seen via progression.) The Sun is a relationship planet as well, particularly paired with the Moon, but the Sun operates in a dimension beyond day to day reality, and is, quite frankly, hard for us to get hold of. We feel it (if we’re lucky), we identify with it, but we can’t really manipulate its energy or work with it the way we can with the inner planets. (For more on the Sun, see the five-part series, “The Mystery of Solar Fire.”) We’re infused with the Sun, but we have no power over it. It has plans for us we’re not allowed to discover until the time is right. There’s that word again. Time. That’s Saturn’s realm.

We all identify with each one of these planets, but they will also play a role in giving us an idea of the opposite sex. If we toss them around, and pair a masculine planet with a feminine one, we get some very interesting combinations. Two of the most intense are two that are rarely discussed. One is Moon/Mars, which I’ve talked about before, both here and in a two part article for Sasstrology.com–steamier, more intense, more intimate and yes, a little scarier, than Venus/Mars. But the real black sheep of the bunch is Venus/Saturn. If you’re not aware of Venus/Saturn as a relationship magnet, it can hit you blindside.

In the words of Liz Green, from her book “Saturn, A New Look at an Old Devil,” (one of the greatest books on Saturn)–sorry, I have to paraphrase a bit, because my copy isn’t where I am right now–when Saturn sees something it wants, it can act like “the most inflamed Mars.” I’ve remembered that phrase ‘like the most inflamed Mars’ from the first time I read it. No one thinks of Saturn that way. And yet, in practice, over the years, I’ve seen him do just that, over and over and over again. Why? The secret of Saturn, and the Saturn/Moon combination, is that Saturn needs. He knows what he has to do, and the clock is ticking. If you have what he needs, he will court you like a lovesick swain. His love is genuine, desperate. Tick tock.

What Saturn wants is Venus. All that grace, all that gentility, all that beauty, is a balm to his harsh existence. When Venus touches Saturn, he is no longer the builder, the taskmaster, the responsible one. In Venus’s presence he can become the master craftsman, the artist. His work has a purpose beyond the mundane. He can take the raw materials of Venus, her beauty, her desire, and use them to achieve his purpose in an elevated and more gentle manner. Venus encourages him to share his skills and experience. Venus wants to be desired, and she senses his need. Remember that Saturn is exalted in Libra.

But Saturn/Venus doesn’t pounce, as Mars/Venus might and Mars/Moon often does. (Mars/Moon is a contact between two primal forces, where Saturn/Venus is much more sophisticated.) Saturn will court. Saturn will spend time. Saturn will feed your cat when you’re away and mend your loose wiring and fill your refrigerator on top of it. When you return, Saturn will hold your hand and talk to you through the night and stoically suppress sighs of longing–until one day when you trust him utterly and he’s certain he won’t be rejected, he will pounce. Saturn can wait forever where Venus is concerned. Saturn is desperate for appreciation, and appreciation is what Venus does best. This is always a very sensual tie, no matter what sign it falls in. The earthy, Taurean side of Venus is a natural match for the equally earthy Saturn. And they will want the best of everything for and from one another, and they are both very security-minded planets. With the hard aspects there will be more striving, and more tussling for rewards (internal and external), but the same underlying desire will be there.

As with all aspects, nothing can be taken out of context. Problems come when either of the planets is debilitated in the natal. If the person with the Saturn has a Saturn placement that causes it to be full of fear and defensiveness, if it constantly feels inadequate and suppressed, it will take it out on Venus, who will feel hurt and betrayed, and surmise that Saturn’s desire was a lie. If the Venus person’s self-confidence is on the brink, or if the person’s Venus is dominated by Uranus, Neptune or Pluto, Saturn may never obtain the security it desires, and may be shocked when the outer planet steamroller rides into town and his once accommodating partner shows herself to be elusive or manipulative. Sometimes, though rarely, the planets only want a specific thing from one another, to learn a specific lesson, and once that lesson is learned the attraction cools. That can happen with any planetary inter-aspect, but the fallout here can be devastating, because of the trust involved, and the whispered promises of forever, which can be very loud when these two connect.

The most common thing I hear when I see a Venus/Saturn inter-aspect is, “We didn’t do anything the first night we spent together. We just held one another.” That’s what Venus/Saturn is doing. Holding on in the dark of the night, remaining in the here and now, taking joy from the warmth and the comfort.

  1. The conjunction is always the strongest connection between the two archetypes, but this can apply to the other aspects. The opposition can have more projection, and more of a push-me-pull-you effect, making it harder for them to connect. The square can be more desperate and specific about what it wants, according to the houses involved. Inconjuncts know they want something from one another, but may never get it together. The conjunction, trine, and sextile will have an easier time of it.

  2. Hi Dawn

thank you for this deep, constructive and accurate view of the Venus/Saturn combination. I also think that one of the great gifts this offers in relationship is realism: the recognition that there is no ideal life or ideal partner, and if you have sufficiently positive energies in your relationship, best to hang on in there, work at honest communication, work out sustaining compromises in the areas of difficulty which all relationships have.

But then – with four personal planets including Venus conjunct Saturn, I would say that, wouldn’t I?!

    1. Thanks, Anne. That’s a very good point–Saturn deals with the here and now, and with Venus involved, Saturn can appreciate the here and now. Saturn is definitely happier with a bird in the hand…so to speak.

We need more people who have lots of Saturn sticking up for him.

  3. My parents have Venus-squared in synastry and it shows up in composite too. Its as if there is an invisible wall between them and my mother says often that it is so hard to talk to him about her feelings because she feels uncomfortable, they been together for 30+ years. I always blamed it on venus-saturn squared, also they have mars-saturn squared composite and synastry!

  4. All synastry is complex and no one aspect can be taken out of context. Venus/Saturn will certainly provide a glue, even if there are other difficulties in the charts. Mars-Saturn is another thing entirely; Mars/Saturn can be very difficult in hard aspect. There usually is a lot of tension running under the surface, the goat and the ram going head to head. It’s hard to get Mars and Saturn to approve of one another. Moon issues are usually to blame when feelings are oppressed. Venus is more about self-worth.

But comparing chart inter-aspects is the next to last step in synastry. It’s more important to analyze the charts for relationship signatures (what kind of partner they need) and capacity for relationship and relating before you compare the two charts. That’s what we cover in the synastry class.

  5. It seems to me that most people dump on Saturn (and the outer planets) because they won’t or don’t know how to take responsibility for their lives and creating their own reality. It just seems easier to them to blame their birth chart, which to me is a pretty neanderthal approach, (something I was guilty of myself in my early years of studying). I welcome more articles by astrologers along these lines. As an astrologer I have the perspective that there is never anything negative in a birth chart….I see it as chosen by the wisdom of our spirit…it may entail challenges and difficulties we have to go through in childhood, but seen in the context of a full, well-lived life those challenges are truly alchemical and can lead to great wisdom and consciousness. Thanks Dawn!

  6. Thanks, Gavin. It seems as though we’re living in an age where personal responsibility is seen as a burden, rather than an honour and spiritual duty. Saturn gets the brunt of this, because everything is blamed on the world ‘out there’ which, in its mundane guise, Saturn represents. The internal and external worlds must meet in order for there to be any kind of personal peace and authenticity, and Saturn is the one who gives us the opportunity for that meeting. It is also the place where we find enough strength to create our world. I’m going to be writing a follow up series on the magic inherent in the Earth signs soon. You can be sure that Saturn and Capricorn will feature.

  7. Hi alcuin9,

This was a very interesting article. I was wondering what you might think when Saturn is in aspect to Venus from both sides: Person A’s Saturn is Square Person B’s Venus and Person B’s Saturn is Opposite Person A’s Venus. Something along those lines.

    Thanks again! Wonderful article
    mia

  8. Hi, Mia–

Any ‘double whammy’ (which is a term astrologer Stephen Arroyo invented) will be a dominant force in a partnership. If you have both in hard aspect, the struggles between Saturn and Venus might be emphasized–there might be more repression of good feelings and lack of appreciation on both sides. However, there is no substitute for going back to the individual charts and seeing what both Saturn and Venus are doing. You can’t take them out of context. If Saturn and/or Venus are problematic in the natal charts, you can’t expect them to suddenly ‘get better’ in synastry. The contact will be part of the challenge, and will encourage growth, for better or for worse.

  9. Interesting and useful, again 🙂

I’ve been reading your blog since last year, I definitely like your style, I agree with the most of the ideas you have been talking about and I have a website about astrology in Bulgarian as well.

So my general question now is may I translate sone of the articles.. maybe not exact translation every single time, but the representation of the original idea with some additions and notes because of the type of users of my site; but every time with link to the original article and with author mention, of course?

    Greeting from Bulgaria, Vladimir Komarov

  10. So infomative and enlightening. Met a guy on facebook when the sun transited our Saturn (him) Venus (me) conjunction. We also have my Saturn square his Venus and I could go on and on we have an incredible amount of synastry aspects. Anyway, he’s married so we have never slept together, in fact only met once in the last year but I consider him by boyfriend and vice versa – we chat online several times a day and he calls me every morning. Our relay has gotten less and less romantic but we are “glued” to each other. I’m single but feel totally “possessed” by this guy – but I love it! My Pluto/Venus/Mars stellium are conjunct his Sun/Moon/Saturn stellium.

  11. This was really surprising in a good way. I have a friend with who’s Saturn makes sextile to my Venus. I liked him since the first day we met, but we don`t see each other often. It’s strange because when we see each other it’s like we have been friends forever, he acts like he likes me but is shy to do anything about it – he actually don`t have a problem having any girl he wants and he knows what to do there, but with me he doesn`t make any move and I was starting to think everything is in my imagination. We have also Mars/Moon trine and a lot of other aspects which are considerd for love aspects. My venus is in his fifth house and his venus is in my fifth house in the synastry. I don`t know after I read this what to think .. it’s been maybe a year since we know each other and he just likes me, like from a far 🙂 I hope this Saturn/Venus sextile is what makes him act this way 🙂

  12. Dear Dawn,

I have exhausted my readings of this particular article of yours. Thank you, as an introductory note, for creating such a beautiful piece of writing.

With every rereading, I gain new and more nuanced insight into this meaningful albeit difficult aspect. I’m hurting, Dawn. I’m afraid I’m going through that devastating fallout, the one that hurts so bad “because of the trust involved, and the whispered promises of forever.” Can you offer any guidance in terms of letting go? I’m not sure how to move on from what’s ended; I’m still haunted by the spectre of what never truly happened.

  13. This is very interesting and enlightening re: Saturn in the birth chart (that is not in synastry). Since my Saturn return I have come to really like and appreciate Saturn. I’m not sure that he’s especially strong in my chart but he never makes trouble like the outers. I have Uranus broadly conjunct Venus and both disposited by Pluto, with Venus square Saturn, and I tell you I sure wouldn’t mind having Saturn be the dispositor instead of Pluto.

  14. I like the idea of Saturn feeling the “Need” which is usually quoted to the Moon … and filling it by being practically resourceful for the other in synastry. An angle I didn’t see it from before.

The comparison between natal and synastry rose a question however. I’m trying to grasp how to analyse individual charts combine with the synastry here. As a personal example, my mars conjunct by sign my saturn natal (both planet being positively aspected overall) and he has mars sextile his saturn (both positive also) but in synastry, my saturn square his mars.
How can we interprete that? I’m dropping a thought here … can we say there will be friction but we will both be able to handle it?

    1. As a general rule of thumb, what is in the natal chart will ‘win’ over the synastric interactions. If your Mars is not prone to violence, no relationship will prod you into violence–unless there are extreme circumstances. So if someone knows how to use Mars wisely, they are unlikely to get into trouble for it. Mars square Saturn can be very productive and inspiring, with a ‘let’s get things done’ attitude.

  15. my question isn’t exclusively about Saturn/Venus but I use it because it promoted the question in my mind. In regards to synastry what impact does each person having the same aspect in their natal chart? Person A has natal Saturn square Venus and person B has natal Saturn square Venus. Also in this particular case person A’s Saturn is square person B’s Venus. I’d like to know the significance of them sharing the same aspect if any. Would the aspect pose a hurdle or would it create a mutual understanding?

    1. The answer is both. Saturn square Venus will create a stamp on the relationship. It will also, most likely, show itself in the composite charts. This is not a bad thing. Loyalty and patience are some of this aspect’s virtues. However, there might be a slow burn on controlling or restrictive behaviour, waiting until it’s far too late to be solved. Withholding love is often a weapon. There could be a gradual withdrawal of affection. On the whole, there would be mutual understanding and agreement, however, about the way love is expressed and received. What others might deem ‘cold’, these two call normal. So there is always a chance to overcome differences if the lines of communication remain open and a mature attitude (rather than restrictive or controlling) is taken.

  16. Hello,
I have Venus sextile Saturn in synastry with a man.Everything you wrote applies to me word by word.I am the Saturn person.I feel like a helpless fly attracted to the light bulb. However how this sextile plays in time?Is Venus going to be attracted by me as well?Does this point out to longevity?
He also has Venus sextile Saturn in his birth chart. What does this mean?

    1. Usually, Venus sextile Saturn indicates people who will tolerate one another and who feel safe with one another. There is opportunity for supported growth from both parties. It may, however, grow a little dull in time. Or perhaps not, depending on the rest of the synastry.

  17. Dear Dawn!

I had some relationship attempt in the last years, there were some classical aspects like sun/moon conjunction or sun/moon trine, etc. but the saturn contact was not strong in this connections. This year I met someone and our relationship became serious soon and with full of trust and
responsibility from the begenning. I did not experience this before. We have sun-saturn exact conjuntion. Moon-saturn double whammy: an exact conjunction and an exact trine. And we have venus conjunct saturn also with thight orbs. The trust, intimacy naturally flowed between us from our first meeting already. We felt that it is so strong and so karmic and there is a strong feeling to be close together and something special: as we know each other already from the past. As I know this aspects are really strong. I had saturn trines or sextiles in the past and I can feel the difference now very strongly. As I know this aspects are very common in the long term relationships, because they are very karmic and the strength and the ties of the planets and the aspects become more strong during the time. We have also some very good other aspects (for example asc-jupiter conjunction and desc-moon conjunction, venus trine venus and venus-jupiter harmony DW). The saturn is an important planet in my natal chart, because it conjuncts to my ascendant and it is the ruler of my 7th. house. And the sun is my ascendant ruler (that conjunts with his Saturn). So it seems to be a very significant and special relationship in my life and I hope this is that I was looking from very long time… As I know strong saturn aspects and angle+planet aspects can be strong, karmic and also long term. What is your opinion about this?

    Thank you for the answer,
    Eva

  18. Hello, I have interesting experiences. I had some relationships in the past with strong Saturn connections like Ascendant conjunct Saturn, Moon conjunct Saturn, Venus conjunct Saturn or Sun conjunct Saturn. These aspects can indicate a long-term relationship. And in this sinastries the other synastry aspects were harmonious with lot of aspects. And both of these relationships ended. And after I met with someone. We don’t have any Saturn connections. And our relationship is serious and long-term. 🙂 We have lot of harmony together and there are an intense attraction. We have sun sextile moon double whammy and also many strong pluto aspects. And my moon conjunts his north node and his venus conjuncts my north node exactly. My question is that: without Saturn connections can be a relationship for a lifelong?

    1. Saturn is not some kind of magical ‘glue’ that holds relationships together. Sometimes it just means tests, restrictions, and heartbreak. If the relationship becomes long term, it is often because of duty and not love. I’m a fan of nodal aspects, but those, too, can be merely for the duration of the lesson learned. There are no guarantees in synastry, and that’s that. The only thing that might indicate length of relationship is a thorough examination of secondary progressions.

  19. Thanks for the answer. I agree with you in that Saturn is not a magical glue between two person. For me all the strong Saturn connections resulted heartbreaks and not long term. 🙁 And I agree so much about the importance of the Nodes. My past longest relationship was absolutely without saturn and it was almost 8 years long. The North Node conjunct with Ascendant, and Moon that shows the strong connection and long term. but there were not other strong connections at all. So I think North Node also can indicate a strong and long term realtionship without Saturn.

  20. update: we got my boyfriend’s exact birth time (hour, minute) and there are some very good suprises 🙂 Our ascendants are in an exact conjunction and all of our houses in the same degrees, I have never seen before like this! 🙂 What do you think about this? We are very same in several things, lifestyle, moods, etc. I think it is a very lucky thing with the strong sun-moon duble harmony (and spicey weaker sun-sun, moon-moon oppositions). And we have also a strong Saturn-Ascendant conjunction, I think it is also very good next to the north node conjunctions with moon and venus. I am glad of these very much!!! 🙂

  21. In my opinion Saturn is important in synastry.
All of my serious relationships I had strong Saturn contact. Thanks for this venus-saturn article.
I had an exact venus-saturn conjunction with my very important person. (We have strong synastry and we have other 4 harmonious Saturn aspects also, but this conjunction the most exact.) Our meet is very fated and there is a strong attraction and drawn from the beginning.
Can become this relationship serious and long term?

  22. I found your thread while looking for answers to a synastry between myself and my son. I have an unaspected Saturn in my natal and he has an unaspected Venus in his natal. I wanted to know if any of my planets would support his unsuspected Venus somehow and through a synastry chart i found our only aspect was a Saturn opposition Venus. I wonder if you had any opinions on this?

    1. Unaspected planets can go to extremes, because they don’t relate to anything else in the chart. They need integration. With your unaspected Saturn this can be a bit of a ride, shifting from excess discipline/repression to helicopter parenting, and the steadiness and stability in between. His Venus is in his maternal house and your Saturn is in the house of self-definition. Perhaps your attempts at creating a strong ego/personality will inspire him.

  23. * I though i would just add that my unaspected Saturn in is my first house in Scorpio and his unaspected Venus is in his fourth house in Taurus.

  24. Thank you Dawn,
I have Saturn conjunct Venus, Mercury and IC in Taurus in the 4th all trining Asc. I feel blessed with an inner teacher. I have dreams when an ageless old man comes and talks to me in a wordless language. He can see beyond walls into the open fields too… That Saturn is opposite Jupiter in Scorpio on the MC.

  25. I am very curious about this article and Saturn. I was always thinking that Saturn gives us – weaknesses that really are continuation of our strength. My Saturn is in conjunction with Moon, Sun, and Mercury. And it is together with Venus in 11th house and my Mars is in conjunction with Venus. – Saturn definitely knows what he wants, – in my case, and can be acting more aggressively than Mars. – Saturn will court. Saturn will spend time. – Saturn can wait forever where Venus is concerned. Saturn is desperate for appreciation. – Moon/Saturn hard contacts within a natal chart are so painful because we sense that what we have, what we were born with, is not adequate enough for us to create what we want. – when Saturn sees something it wants, it can act like “the most inflamed Mars. The secret of Saturn, and the Saturn/Moon combination, is that Saturn needs. He knows what he has to do, and the clock is ticking. If you have what he needs, he will court you like a lovesick swain. His love is genuine, desperate. — I am totally agree. I was thinking this way about my combinations and yet I never find a traditional meaning of Saturn as true for me. – It takes me a lifetime to build relations, and even I do make mistakes, I am go after my goals. Love for me is very serious business, once and forever.

  26. How would your insights translate to composites for a couple with Venus/Saturn natal signatures?

Person A has natal Venus conjunct Saturn/Uranus in Sagittarius, which is conjunct Person B’s natal Saturn/Uranus in synastry, opposite Person B’s in Gemini– so it’s a DW.

This shows up in the composite as Venus square Saturn/Uranus– the Venus/Saturn square being a tighter orb.

I know it’s modified by Uranus in this case, but how might this manifest? My initial thoughts were that each will have to deal with unconsummated/denial of relationships in their own lives, and this relationship might be one of them? Or is there a chance for them?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

    1. No single aspect can make or break a relationship. Most likely, the Venus person will be both attracted to and repulsed by the Saturn/Uranus energy. Wanting to hang on and wanting to run away at the same time. Whether in the natals or the composite, it carries the same message, only in a different way. In the composite, the houses will tell you how it will manifest between them.

  27. Hey you mentioned Venus/Neptune. What exactly could happen if person As Saturn squares Persons Bs Venus, when Person B has Venus conj Neptune natally?

    1. This means Saturn is squaring both Venus and Neptune. You can’t really separate out the planets in an aspect. If Venus is conjunct Neptune, you have to treat it as an entity, a singularity.(However, the houses involved will be different–Venus rules the Taurus and Libra houses and Neptune rules the Pisces house. All three will be influenced by this Saturn.) The person with Venus/Neptune likes to take romantic fantasy for reality; it hungers for some kind of divine, unselfish love. Saturn will knock some reality into it, often harshly and carelessly. It may be too difficult for the Venus/Neptune to bear.

  28. Dawn,

Thank you so much for the amazing class. 🙂
I’m in the middle of my Saturn return and I love Saturn.

I have a doubt… Can this saturnian “the most inflamed Mars” fulfil the lack of mars aspects in a synastry where the males mars is unaspected in the synastry?

Obs.: He is the Saturn person and it is exalted in Libra in the 10th, and conjunct Jupiter.

    1. Sometimes Saturn can work in place of Mars, if the person is disciplined and Mars is not mishandled in the chart. Mars in the 10th in Libra is exalted by both position and sign.

  29. I think mutual Saturn contacts are very important in the synastry for the long term relationship or marriage. We have 6 exact Saturn contact with my beloved mate, two of these ara mutaual: saturn-ascendant (conjunt and trine) , venus-saturn (trine and sextile)
We mutually feel that our relationship is so karmic, it was a very strong feeling from our first meeting to us we belong together and we will always . We have also moon-north node conjunction. I think the strong Saturn contacts are essential important next to the harmonic and important other synastry aspects. (sun-moon, moon-moon, venus-venus, venus-jupiter, asc-asc, asc-venus, etc.)
We are absolutely sure in each other and we are Whole together and complement each other completely, so we arrived home to each other in Life!

  30. I think mutual Saturn contacts are very important in the synastry for the long term relationship or marriage. We have 6 exact Saturn contact with my beloved fiancé: two of these are mutual: saturn-ascendant (a conjunt and a trine) , venus-saturn (a trine and a sextile)
We mutually feel that our relationship is so karmic, it was a very strong feeling from our first meeting to us we belong together and we will always . We have also moon-north node conjunction. I think the strong Saturn contacts are essential important next the harmonic and important other synastry aspects. (In our synastry for example: sun-moon, moon-moon, venus-venus, venus-jupiter conj, asc-asc, asc-venus, etc.) So we are absolutely sure in each other and we are Whole together and complement each other completely, so we arrived home to each other in Life!

  31. This is the first article I have found that gives me any hope. Thank you, Dawn.

I am a Cap (sun/moon/mercury) in a challenging relationship with a Sag (cap rising) scorpio moon. We both have Scorpio Venus’ and Aquarius Saturns. Unfortunately our Venus / Saturn square is close in both synastry and Composite charts. But we also share some excellent aspects in both.

Synastry: Pluto sextile venus / Sun sextile Saturn / Jupiter trine venus / Moon trine pluto / moon trine Jupiter / neptune sextile mars.
Composite: Moon conjunct sun (exact in Sag) / Venus Sextile pluto / moon sextile saturn and sun / Pluto sextile north node / mercury sextile venus … and a bunch of nice trines and sextiles.

The influence of the Saturn Venus square definitely weighs us down. It has been 6 years now … and there have been definite steps towards each other … but it has been slow. The final hurdle is a vindictive ex partner using the children (adults) as weapons. It may never work … but fate does seem to continue to throw us together when one of us finds it all too hard. It seems a bond that cannot be broken. (It has survived transitting Pluto conjunct my natal sun and moon, transitting Saturn conjunct his moon, then sun and now transitting saturn conjuncting my natal sun).

It is passionate (scorpio venus’s) and a lot of fun (sadge composite sun / moon) … when it is not breaking our hearts. We also have 5 yods in the composite … all tight (less than a degree).

Is it possible that time (saturn) is the enemy and that we could ultimately triumph with this difficult aspect? Neither of us have any challenging saturn or venus issues in our natals.

  32. I have a Venus/Saturn double whammy with someone. It feels more significant than what other sources I’ve seen say.

My 8th house Venus (and Juno!) is conjunct (0.12) his 7th house Saturn in Scorpio. And his 8th house Venus is conjunct (0.06) my 8th house Saturn in Libra.

I’m still something of a novice, but I don’t think this arrangement can be that common given how fast Venus travels and the near dead-on conjuncts. Or do you think Venus in domicile and detriment sort of cancel out the effect?
