Hi Dawn - thank you so much - I've been consciously committed to the souls journey for some years now and your comments above are really helpful - amazing how the right question can open up insights into what needs to be surrendered. The whole issue of being who I'm supposed to be versus being who I really am has been a life-long conflict (not to mention past lives!)

There's not much else going on in the progressed chart but natally both Saturn and Pluto have intense placements. Saturn exactly conjunct Sun and Venus in the 12th and Pluto conjunct Moon in the 7th and in Virgo.

I do find it an ongoing challenge to get past those stern critic, slave-drivers to let out the playful, creative being that is so sat upon!

It's Pluto that's causing the earthquake beneath your feet. It's a good idea to turn to Pluto with open arms and ask him what changes he wants from you. What do you really need to let go of in order to follow the Soul's path? Because Pluto will be satisfied with nothing but core truth.

Hi, Jay--the progressed Moon puts an emphasis on whatever house it's transiting. The lights are not called the lights for nothing, when they transit or progress it's as though they are shedding light on situations that need to be seen right now. The fifth house has to do with the way you express your unique being. If Saturn is putting his heavy foot on your Moon here, I would suspect that there was some previously unacknowledged suppression going on, both creatively and sexually. Saturn wants you to be completely authentic and to be your own authority; perhaps you have ideas about who you should be that win out over who you really are. A lot depends on what Saturn is doing in your natal chart, because right now you are experiencing your own Saturn through 'other.' There may be other things going on in the progressed chart that are making things feel extra slippery. Saturn transits enforce us to break through the crust of the old, but if you have a very strong feeling of a lack of solidity right now, there are probably other factors involved.

Really looking forward to the book Dawn - your writing about astrological matters seems to go to a depth few other writers aim for - so much is dumbed down these days.

I have a synastry question regarding Saturn and the progressed moon. I liked your comment about it being a testing time of uncertainty where the world throws stuff at you to see if you can walk your talk.

At present my progressed moon is in cancer and is being opposed by my partners saturn in capricorn as well as transiting saturn in libra - this seems to be dredging up any doubts I have about my creative work (cancer in the fifth house) and my relationship (transiting saturn in the seventh house) - both of which up to now I have been very happy with. Whilst aware of a call to mature my inner child and internal nurturing, it does feel as though previously solid ground has suddenly gone fluid. Any suggestions on what really needs to be looked at during a heavy saturn/progressed moon time?

ps. I'm a female Jay!

One of the main reasons I wrote this piece is that nobody mentions how difficult this time can be. Everybody talks about the Saturn return, but it's nothing compared to these squares. And on top of it all, there is a lot of pressure from society itself (Saturn) to have everything figured out. Whereas, honestly, I don't think we get close to figuring things out until we've gone through all the major mid-life transits: Pluto/Pluto, Neptune/Neptune, Uranus/Uranus. After that, we have some clue to who we are in a spiritual sense. Once you go through those cycles, you're different. Ask anyone. You get to sit at the grown-ups table and you know you deserve it, and you feel as though there is a vast divide between those who've been through it and those who haven't. You've got an exciting time still ahead of you--just don't let anybody tell you who or where you should be.

Good question, Alejandro. And I'm not sure if I have an answer, except for the fact that with all the same sex couples I work with, the mix of relationship planets is much more interesting. It seems to depend on which of the relationship planets is more prominent in the chart. If Mars and Saturn are stronger than Venus, Moon, then the Venus or Moon will be projected. It also depends on what planets are 'owned'. For example, someone with Mars or Venus in the 1st or 10th will be more likely to connect with those planets, while relationship planets in the more shadowy 4th and 7th are prone to projection. You do really have to look at the individual charts to see which planets are accessible and which ones are not.

btw, the whole thing about the Saturn Square and the 3rd Jupiter return made me burst into tears. I have been wondering why my 30s have been so incredibly challenging. A lot of work and very little to show for it . . . and now I know. It's played out for me exactly as you described it. I expected the Jupiter return (in my 7th) to bring me a relationship and instead it rammed me into a giant wall and made me realize I needed to grow up and clean up shop spiritually.

>>Something interesting starts happening at the age of 28, when we have our Progressed Lunar Returns. There can begin, though it doesn’t always happen, a strange split in the psyche, where, in a man, the feeling side of his life, the anima, will be more difficult to own and will therefore be lived out through girlfriends and wives.

Just curious how this plays out with gay men? I've never quite understood whether I am searching for my anima or animus--Jung isn't very helpful with the issue of same sex relationships (plus I wonder if all straight men are disconnected from their anima, some may seek women with strong connections to their animus).
