While I stand by what is stated in this article, three years on we have learned a great deal more about the Black Moon–her actions, her purpose, and the reasons she behaves the way she does.  I will be updating this article shortly with new material about Black Moon Lillith.  In the meantime, take the negativity with a grain of salt.  We have moved on from there.   Dawn

What I Know About the Black Moon

It seems that recently I’ve had a hundred inquiries on the topic of Black Moon Lilith.  It’s understandable.  Black Moon Lillith has been making a long term conjunction with Uranus, on and off, since December of last year and only just pulled away from him in late June.   For a good part of that time the Uranus/BML conjunction was squared by Pluto.   What does this mean, you might ask?  The honest answer is, “We don’t know yet.”

One of the big truths in astrology is that the incidents that arise via outer planet disruption take a long time to sink in and a long time to make sense of.  We go through the storm first and take stock later.  Basically, when outer planets attack (forgive me, it’s shark week on the Discovery Channel again), the best we can do is try to stay alive so that we can ask questions later.  Black Moon Lillith to Pluto, BML to Uranus—sure, we can throw the archetypes together and come up with some theories.  But without really understanding the initial archetype thoroughly and completely,  we will be, at best, guessing.

And with something as slippery and reluctant to be defined as the Black Moon, guessing is the best we can do. Talk about taking stabs in the dark. I’ve been studying the Black Moon closely for about five years now.  She doesn’t like it. The minute you try to define one of her patterns, she slithers away and hits you with another one.  It started with a client of mine whose chart was so dominated by the Black Moon that he could hardly take a step without confronting her in some form in his life.  She’s prominent in my chart, too, close to Chiron and opposite my Moon/Uranus conjunction in Leo, also opposite Venus, square Neptune and quincunx Pluto.  Obviously, at some point in my life she and I would have to have a confrontation.

Before we go any further, let’s define her.  I’m not talking about the asteroid Lilith.  I’m talking about the Lilith that is represented by the apogee of the Moon—the Moon’s furthest point away from the Earth in its elliptical orbit of the Earth.  This orbit is not steady, but extremely wobbly, which is why you have a choice of the True (or Oscillating) Black Moon or the Mean Black Moon.  Even this is mysterious (we will find that many things about the Black Moon are mysterious, uncertain, and hidden).  Apparently, even the “True” Black Moon is only True when it’s actually touching the ecliptic (the path of the Moon) and the rest of the time it’s just as wonky as the other measurement.  I’ve always favoured the Mean Black Moon—I’m comfortable with mean measurements in astrology because they seem to represent a concentrated essence of the measurement.   I like to think that the mean measurement is the concentrated essence of the Black Moon and the Oscillating Lilith represents the parameters of that influence.

I’ve read a lot about BML and her influence; unfortunately, a lot of what I’ve read has nothing to do with the experiences I’ve been witness to via my clients.  The worst is when someone tries to put a happy face on Black Moon Lillith, because I’ve yet to discover a true positive side to her aside from the raw power which emerges from her intimate connection to occult abilities, and her propensity to distribute post-rage clarity.  This is a serious lady, certainly no one to muck around with.  It’s been said that we must give up, or sacrifice something where Black Moon Lillith resides.  Unlike Neptune, with BML there is no bargaining for what is appropriate to lose–the only way we can tap into the great power of Black Moon Lillith is to sacrifice our fears, terrors and hungers.

Because I feel we’re a long way from understanding The Black Moon Lilith, and because her behaviour is so inconsistent, (some feel her a great deal, others not at all) I’m instead going to lay out the things about BML that I know for certain to be true.

Sex, Rage, and the Tearing Away

The word ‘raw’ is, I suppose, the best way to start with BML.  When you think about her symbolism—the point where the Moon is furthest away from the Earth—it becomes clear right away that her story has to do with being a kind of ‘anti-moon.’  The Moon, at its essence, describes how we feel nurtured and supported, where we are comforted and familiar.  BML is the very opposite of that, and represents the stark terror of abandonment.  Do you remember ever getting lost as a very young child?  You dropped Mum’s or Dad’s hand in the department store or on the street, and when you found yourself alone, surrounded by strangers in an unfamiliar place, you screamed a scream of both fear and rage and you began to cry, because, that that age, we instinctively know that being severed from the people who care for us is death—not a metaphorical death, but a literal one.  A child can’t survive on its own.  When BML is touched by transit or progression, this kind of terror, normally hidden down deep, can rear its head.

BML has a great deal to do with the rage of not being heard, and of needs not being accepted nor understood.  This is particularly true of the needs of any house it falls in.  For example, if she’s found in the 5th house, and her needs for creative self-expression are not accepted, she will rage with utter fury when provoked.  In the 8th house, there is a deep need for intimacy of the most intense kind; her fury will be unleashed at anyone or anything that gets in the way of this intimacy.  It may be merely her perception of truth, and not ‘truth’ at all in literal terms, but with BML we are not talking about a logical process.  We’re talking about visceral instinct.  The cry of the “I.”
The rage of Black Moon Lillith is a peculiar one, and everyone who has experienced it will recognize it immediately.  It isn’t the deep eruption of Pluto or the cold cutting of Uranus or the lightning intensity of Mars.  The best way to describe it would be as a combination of all three.  It’s instantaneous, it’s blinding, and it takes over the soul and the sensibility to the point where we lose our normal consciousness and we feel nothing but the black rage.  Notice I say black, not red.  I think a red rage has more to do with an affronted Mars.  This rage of BML has to do with the nothingness at the dark side of life.  BML has been associated with the goddess Kali.  She is the black hole in our psyche were comfort used to be. Kali has also been associated with Ceres.  But Ceres spends equal amounts of time sewing and reaping, living the cycles of time, whereas BML seems to be all about the reaping.  In fact, she’s not reaping at all, she’s burning those old stumps of grass and salting the Earth so that nothing will ever grow there again.  Her anger is something primal, a wailing wound at the center of the material world.  But, at the same time, there is something glorious about her.  There is something majestic about all that pure force, that pure energy, bound by no rules.

The Black Moon and The Source

Try to imagine all the forces of the material world, all the energetic essences, without the world itself to contain them.  That’s what the Black Moon represents.  And that’s one of the reasons that BML, when she sacrifices destruction and gives up relating herself to the material world, is the true representative of occult abilities in the chart.  She’s witchy, all right.  More than witchy.  Far from being at the mercy of her hungers, once she realizes she doesn’t have to be hungry she has the powers of all the hidden knowledge of the universe at her feet.  She just knows.  Her knowledge is instinctual, and doesn’t necessarily fit any logical patterns of knowing.  Her wisdom is an ancient one and allows her access to become mistress of those other-worldly forces.  There is a clarity, too, that can arise once the rage of BML is confronted and her anger and hunger quelled.  Once we understand the seat of that rage, we can clear any debris from our soul’s path.

It has always been known that one of the great and powerful sources of energy in the world is sexual energy.  Black Moon Lillith has a great deal to do with the sexual dance because of the deeper connection between sex and the regenerative forces of the world. Black Moon Lillith is concerned with healing sexual issues, but it is also about the uses and abuses of sexual energy to achieve things towards one’s own ends.  There is nothing inherently bad in the use of sexual energy—we all use our sexuality on a daily basis, whether we realize it or not.  It is the yin and yang, the ida and pingala of our energetic make-up.  But there is a difference between expressing sexuality and the manipulative use of sexual power.Black Moon Lillith

Black Moon Lilith and the Blade

BML is intimately connected to both male and female sexuality, and feelings about sexual power. (It also has to do with early sexual development and sexual preferences.  However, this research is ongoing, and I will put out more information at a later date.) If BML hits a planet in the chart, we will be able to use that planet’s wiles in the sexual game.  BML can sexualize whatever it touches.  It is intimately connected to the archetype of ‘the femme fatale,’ and men with BML prominent may be attracted to relationships which cause them to give up their power and surrender to the feminine.  They may also be terrified of doing such a thing, and avoid women altogether.  Or they may like being surrounded by very powerful women (or a combination of all these things).   If BML is prominent in a woman’s chart, she may enjoy manipulating her partners and seeing how far she can gain in the game of seduction.  BML is often prominent in the women who make a career out of breaking up other people’s relationships, but can’t seem to settle into one of her own.  We all know these women, who believe a man isn’t worth having unless he happens to belong to someone else.  These women never feel the true and authentic power of BML until they give up the false power for the greater.

One of the darkest sides to BML is her association with castration.  BML can be the castrating mother (her symbol is rather scythe-like), taking sexual power from her children, no matter which sex.  With hard aspects, there may be a tendency to absorb the mother’s unspoken rage and fear and take it for one’s own.  Her influence may cause an association between sexuality and this rage and powerlessness, or it may cause a disconnect between sexuality and intimacy.  This is when sex becomes conquest instead of union; the ability to connect within our intimate encounters is stolen from us, and is difficult to reinstate.  Or we may go through life feeling at the mercy of our sexual desires, powerless in our ability to choose, never understanding the emptiness that drives us.

Black Moon Lilith and Passion

With Black Moon Lillith in hard aspect or prominent in the chart, there can often be an adjustment needed in one’s attitude towards passion.  Healthy desire is one thing, obsession is another, and with BML strong we are prone to obsessions. Our obsessions can be about anything (see the houses involved) and can often be damaging to us without our knowing it.  Obsession can lure us in until we dissolve within it, losing our separate sense of self along the way.  This brings us back to BML and its role as ‘anti-Moon’—passion/obsession is ultimately about the desire of the screaming, hungry child to return to the breast.  The object of obsession is elusive; our desire to own the object raises fear, terror and threat of loss, with fantasy offering the only temporary release.  When we are obsessed, those obsessions become our substitutes for living, and they replace a healthy participation in life itself.  We choose anti-life, and this is certainly the black moon’s realm.

The Future

For a while, I was taken to thinking of Black Moon Lillith as a polarity—if the furthest, blackest point away from the Earth is BML, wouldn’t the closest point to the Earth, the perigee, indicate a place of material reward?  A place where the natural matter forming principle as represented by the Moon could work unabated?  Alas, as far as I know there is no research on this yet, and my own results are inconclusive. One of the difficulties is that, due to the wobbly orbit of the Moon, the perigee is not necessarily directly opposite the apogee.  The closest point, astronomically, is not the opposition to BML, but rests on some other point in the ecliptic that (to my knowledge) has not been charted for the purposes of astrology.  I would assume that this alignment would work somewhat as the Nodes do, with negatives and positives to both ends and a kind of balance as the goal.  There is some discussion of this on forums, using the Priapus archetype for the opposition, but I’m not certain about dividing Black Moon Lillith into a male and a female half, giving one end the curse of excess and the other the rage of emptiness.  It’s certain that BML has to do with sexuality, but dividing it into an easy polarity like this may be taking it too far beyond our evidence for the moment.

I’m encouraging everyone to explore the Black Moon in charts and gather and document results, particularly by transit and progression.  She can’t hide her dark mysteries from us forever…

  1. Wow, Dawn, this piece is really intriguing! I was wondering what your take would be on a placement involving BML (I have a few ideas already)-Venus conj BML in Aries in the 6th for a man. Fear/hatred of women that are not Aries-like in nature? Fear of own feminity? Fear of working with women?

Thanks! As always, a wonderful, thought provoking read.

  2. It’s a very complicated business, figuring out how BML will manifest in a chart, and on the whole you can’t divorce BML from all the other feminine signatures. With BML in Aries, and especially conjunct Venus, there would most likely be a fear of female sexual aggression. There might be a tendency to see the slightest form of sexual interest or expression as an aggressive action, and consequently, there would be fear. It’s possible that the mother’s independence and/or self-absorption was seen as a threat to survival.

  3. >a fear of female sexual aggression

Aha! That’s what my retrograde brain was trying to say! Thanks! This topic absolutely requires further study, I do believe. 😀

  4. what would a BML conjunct Pluto on the cusp of 7th and 8th house imply? Squaring Moon in the 4th? and a 12th house mars trining the 4th house moon and sesquiquadrating the 7th house pluto?

How would these energies translate in real life?

What would be the quality of rage here?

  5. Dawn,
its interesting how you describe the Black Moon as the anti Moon. in other discussions the Black Moon is frequently described as the anti Sun……

female vampire sexuality is a hunger for Solar individuation, power , and purpose. male fear of the feminine is a hunger for the undifferentiated state where separation and desire disappear. the state of being “male” or “female” is a fall away from that inner meeting ground between the undifferentiated and individuated state – Solar Lunar fusion – which is our birthright.

  6. Don,

The Black Moon is defined by her relationship to the Earth and Moon. The Sun doesn’t enter into it. This is why she is different from other planets and points. Her parameters are different.

I don’t disagree with your statements entirely but to take BML and split her down easy lines like this does her a disservice. She’s about much more than ‘vampire sexuality,’ in a woman and a fear of the undifferentiated state in a man. There’s a power to Lilith herself that has nothing to do with the Sun. In fact, at her best, she may be a female equivalent to the Sun. Her greatest sin may be a misuse of creativity and creative energy, and we need to do a lot more research on her before we come up with absolute definitions.

  7. Dawn, yes, i agree the Black Moon and the Sun are equal.
the Black Moon – in either sex – is freed from or – bound to Lilith – by how we handle and use rage.

  8. The rage is often a negative manifestation of the creative force, a rage against the natural limitations of life. She gets bound up with this, instead of dealing with the force at her center. There are manifestations of this BML female energy in other cultures’ mythologies, and I, for one, would like to do a bit of delving into these stories.

  9. Hi Dawn

I’ve never heard of Black Moon Lilith before – how does one locate her in the natal chart? Does she have any connection to the asteroid Lilith?

  10. No, she isn’t connected to the asteroid Lilith, although the symbolism resonates. The Black Moon is a point in the Moon’s orbit around the Earth. You can locate her by going to astro.com and choosing her from the drop down menu. I don’t remember if you get a choice between ‘true’ and ‘mean’ movement. I use ‘mean’ because the true isn’t any truer. It’s often called ‘oscillating’ lilith and gives a range of the Black Moon’s orbit. I would stick with the mean movement.

  11. Thanks Dawn, for reprinting this article. I really think you’ve got it right, yet I agree there remains a certain indefinable quality to BM Lilith. She’s neither all good nor all bad, and I suspect the same is true of the point opposite her, Priapus.

I also agree there’s no guaranteed access to the wisdom Lilith possesses, even with a prominent Lilith placement. My own experience has led me to believe there’s a certain *prideful* quality attached to Lilith’s knowing, and until and unless we’re willing to relinquish that false pride and willfulness through surrender to the greater Divine Will, we may wander down some dark paths as we try to fill the emptiness. Although the feelings associated with Lilith’s placement may be very real (and as you said, very raw), indulging those feelings is not always in our best interest. Even with a righteous cause, the end doesn’t necessarily justify the means – much like Kali (which is exactly conjunct my natal Moon), Lilith’s black rages can unintentionally obliterate the very thing she wants most.

For me, it’s as if I vaguely remember some other all-encompassing, all-loving, all-compassionate way of being – it’s frustrating because I ‘know’ it’s possible yet whenever I try to force it, it pulls even further away, remaining always just beyond my grasp. When I stop struggling and humbly allow it to reach for me, through my healing and/or intuitive gifts (my Lilith is in the 8th), the feelings of connectedness take hold and the emptiness is filled . . . I’m ‘home’. At least that’s how it’s worked for me. I’m still learning how to use the energy wisely.

  12. wow, that hit me right between my eyes.
“With hard aspects, there may be a tendency to absorb the mother’s unspoken rage and fear and take it for one’s own. Her influence may cause an association between sexuality and this rage and powerlessness, or it may cause a disconnect between sexuality and intimacy. This is when sex becomes conquest instead of union; the ability to connect within our intimate encounters is stolen from us, and is difficult to reinstate.”
I have a very difficult relationship with my mother – Moon in Scorpio conjunct Mars in the 3rd. I had noticed her Sun was at the same degree as my MBL but never known how to think about it….’the ability to connect with our intimate encounters is stolen from us.’ She had an alcoholic father and has never expressed any rage to him but did constantly to my father during their marriage even though she was the victim and he the aggressor. For the 10 years or so after their divorce she would constantly tell me what a disgusting man my dad is and then in the next sentence tell me I am just like him. She still does this (77 now). I would always be fine to have sex with little to no boundaries…Venus in Pisces in the 7th and yet have always struggled to exchange energy on a deeply intimate level. If ever I was in a relationship and the man would love me enough to allow me to soften and really open my heart it would always be that moment when the relationship would dissolve. This article has given me so much. Thank you.

  13. Dear Dawn,

Some sites speak of a true lilith mean lilith corridor between them and any planet in between them having a lilithian flavor.
    Do you agree?

    Thank You

  14. First off, I just have to thank you for writing this!
I’ve looked for info regarding the BML for quite awhile, and there’s very little out there as of now.
It happens to exactly conjunct my Moon (among the other aspects that it makes…) so I’m very interested to how you refer to it as the “anti-moon”.. not sure how that has/will play out for me, but definitely gonna think it all over.

    Thanks again! 🙂

  15. Thank you for this article! I have BML conjunct Mercury at 20 Aquarius in the 6th house. This could explain why I am a workaholic and will blow off a social activity if a gig comes up. Now that I have some insight I can consciously think about it instead of blindly acting. Excellent article, again thanks.

  16. Hello Dawn!!

You mentioned that you have BML conjunct moon in Leo. If bml be the anti-moon..then what would be the effect if both were conjunct??

I too know someone who has BML conjunct Moon. Does it increase their need for intimacy and emotional commitment?

I know rest of the chart has to be taken into account but what would this aspect contribute?

    Thank you!

  17. Dawn,
Thank you so much for taking the time to write an article on BML. Information on it is SO hard to find, but I feel her influence is much more powerful than given credit for by most astrologers.
I have BML in Aqarius in the 8th alone, I’m not completely sure how to interpret her energy yet? Sexual dominance or distance themes maybe???
More interestingly I wanted to know your opinion on Eros (mine) conjunct (within 1 degree) my boyfriends BML in Taurus in his 5th house. The intense sexual obsession/attraction between us is overwhelmingly powerful!

    Any insights would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    1. Eros on BML would likely manifest in themes of sexual control and dominance. You would be playing the role of the femme fatale, whether you knew it or not. With your BML in Aquarius in the 8th, you would have a tendency to either distance yourself from intimacy or intellectualize it in some manner, which may turn your partner on or off, depending. But yes, there is no doubt of the sexual attraction.

  18. I was searching for information on chiron and then i looked up to your BML post to reached here. I’m grateful that i chance upon this article as this page doesn’t come up when i goggled BML.

I have BML conjunct mars (exact in natal chart) and loosely conjunct pluto in first house. I have err… communication issues where my words comes out too fast, too direct and tend to offend ppl easily without intention on my side.. is this due to lilith-pluto-mars aspect?

I need your insight on a lilith relationship. I have lilith conjunct mars (exact) loosely conjunct pluto in first house conjunct a person’s venus conjunct pluto conjunct lilith (exact). How will this work out? You mentioned obsessive. I agree it is so on my part but it doesn’t seem to work both ways or could it be it is only obvious on my part cos my conjunction is in 1st house for all to see? In this case, lilith mutually aspects each other’s chart or is that person so good at hiding emotions?

What will you say about lilith conjunct pluto in composite chart?

Hope you can provide some feedback!

    Love
    Jo

  19. Hi…what’s your take on a woman (me) with Lilith in Scorpio in the 10th house – conjunct the MC. Pluto is in the 8th house at 29 degrees. My Lilith is also trine my Cancer Sun in the 6th house. Any insights would be great. Thanks.

  20. BML and osc lillith conj( same thing?) in cancer… conj Sun in Leo (0°) 7th house & Venus in cancer 7th house, also asteroid lillith conjunct moon and merc in cancer, trine Pluto exact, and opposite Neptune and asc 1°…. Ummmmmmmmmm help me please Lol.. Any thoughts??

    1. The position of the Black Moon can be measured in two ways, either the Mean position (which only about 40 degrees per year) and the true position, which varies a great deal, goes retrograde a lot and is erratic. After using both for a number of years, I find that the mean position is the most concentrated and effective–I compare it to the nucleus of a cell, which is heavier than the rest of the cell and has more of a gravitational pull.

  21. great and insightfull post- thank you!
….I was surprised to find that I have lilith conjunct NN in 12th house aries. what ever could this mean in ones life path?

    1. You would need to get in touch with your sexual power in order to find the divinity within. The South Node in Libra in the sixth (I’m assuming) meant too much balancing and compromise in daily life at the expense of your true spirit. You might need to get past anger and abandonment issues–the rage of not being seen or heard–before you get in touch with this independent power.

  22. Hi,
I was actually expecting to find something about BML in synastry. There is not much of source enough.

Very good friend of mine’s Sun conjunct to my BLM,Chiron and NN (0a in his 5H my 4H ) I am in commitment with somebody else. Despite of being good friends,i can not help to ‘drawn’ to him but i don’t know about him. We’re very close to each other.
I think,it has to do with seductive BLM’s effect :/

  23. Hi, i have bml conjunct a leo moon which is conjunct the ascendant from the 12th. pluto is conjunct the ascendant from the first. i have had periods of rage and clarity about early sexual abuse. the path to wholeness has been a long and fruitful one.

  24. Dang… so what would you say about BML conjunct pluto on ascendant? and asteroid lilith conjunct mars in 1st? I have a hole in myself where there used to be comfort? wtf?

  25. Hi Dawn,
I am not an expert on Astrology and only just learning but particularly drawn to BML. Right now I am facing old fears around sexual abuse of power and very dark aspects which I believe to be linked to past lives. This is manifesting on the physical, in my Cervix, and I wonder if you can say something in relation to this and my BML placement?
-Uranus 18 degree Libra in the 3rd house opposite MC. -Moon 19 degree in Libra in 4th House opposite MC.
-BML 24 degree in Libra in 4th House (is that conjunct natal moon?)
    Thanks for your wonderful research.

    1. When you have a Moon, Uranus, BML conjunction it can cause a great deal of pain (emotional and psychological) which may manifest physically because of the Moon’s rulership of the body. The Black Moon causes us to experience the rage of being left out and unheard, not validated. Moon/Uranus itself causes problems because the head dominates the emotions and there can be a cut off of feelings–including the rage of BML. This may manifest in illness. BML has to do with the uses and abuses of power, particularly sexual power. This is a particularly difficult placement to have, until BML understands that it is the queen of its own realm and doesn’t need what other’s have. Then it can experience the freedom and creative power that is its legacy.

  26. Hi Dawn,

First of all, I want to express my gratitude towards you, as your articles have always been of great inspiration and guidance! 🙂

I have a question that is on my mind for some time, and it is regarding Lilith…My partner’s Lilith is conjunct my Sun, in Aquarius, 8th house…I wonder what are the possible consequences, could we form a healthy relationship for the future? (we are together for 7 years now..)….

Thank you from all my heart!

    Raluca

  27. Hi there. Great information and very accurate about BML. One of the best article on the web (and I searched a lot). But, I was wandering what are the possible solutions on how we can live a fully and harmoniuos life, being a lilithian person. I have BML on Aquarius in First house, and is active.
    Many thanks.

    1. The activity of BMl depends a great deal on the aspects it makes in the chart, and can lead to anything from genius to destruction. There are no cookbook answers.

    2. There are no easy answers. Everything depends on BML’s relationship to whatever else is in the chart. It can incline to any extreme between genius and destruction, and sometimes both. There are no cookbook answers.

  28. Hi Dawn, I don’t know if you’re still monitoring comments on this post, but here’s an experience of natal BML you can add to your research files. 🙂 I haven’t delved into looking at BML’s transits and progressions to my chart yet, but I think that she is a factor in a pattern that plays out a LOT in my life. Specifically, people frequently seem to get overwhelmed or feel dominated by even mild expressions on my part. It’s like a tiny drop of emotion for me is a tidal wave to them. I throw out an offhand comment, they break into tears. This is especially true if the feeling on my part is anger.

The chart factors I’ve identified as potentially contributing to this dynamic are:
–a T-square formed by Mercury conjunct MC, opposite Jupiter and BML (which are widely conjunct, just under 10 degrees, on either side the IC), with the AC at the apex
–Jupiter is the ruler of Sag and the 9th house, where Merc and the MC are located, as are conjoined Sun and Neptune
–Mercury rules Gemini and the 3rd house where BML is located
–Aries intercepted in the 1st house
–BML quincunx Venus (not sure if this is a factor)

Mercury and Jupiter are both quite active in my chart but are placed in what seems to me quite a tense relationship that spans the inner/outer, public/private domains. Communication is emphasized because of the 9th/3rd house polarity and Merc conjunct the MC. I think the T-square could create a lot of potential for miscommunication, exaggeration, and with the intercepted Aries, possibly coming across as very strong and me-first. BML adds a nice touch of destructive rage to that mix. I will say that what is guaranteed to send me over the top angry is feeling like I’m being condescended to or having my ideas (3rd house) dismissed.

    1. The MC/IC may be acting as a conduit from your BML to your Mercury. What affects one end of an angle affects the other. That would be enough for other people to pick up on your energy, which would seem chaotic and destructive to them.

  29. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I have BML conj my Libra Sun and Uranus and Eros and opp Chiron and Moon in the 8th in Aries

With Pluto currently squaring my Sun/Chiron opp she is certainly making herself known to me..the dark feminine and my individuation seem to be a theme…progressed moon just moved into Scorpio and I’m craving depth, intensity and edge and trying to feel fully alive within the confines of my Saturn dominated chart and life.
BML certainly seems to have a Scorpio type energy but it may be hard for me to differentiate with hard aspects from all the outer planets by transit and all the outer planets ‘personalised’ in my natal chart.

  30. BML conj Venus in Leo H2…transits to this point always trigger the anger within..it trines my desc and sextiles my asc and squares my Saturn 11H.I first noticed it when tr. Saturn came around..my husband died. Then my prog Sun came about 3yrs later I was no longer a mourning widow but a friendly association became sexual and then the focus of my obsession for the nxt 3yrs.I was the other woman/mistress, then a full blown consentual love affair developed and a child was born.At that point we were rejected by the focus of my obsession (myself and my child) tr Lilith was conj my MC when he was born..and nw tr Uranus is on his natal BML at age 3 (he is Aqua Rising) and all these themes of rejection, outcast and living in exile are being triggered in him with extreme outburts of unpredictable rage and screaming.I am hanging in there until Uranus goes direct and makes th last pass ovr 14degs Aries..the positives of havn this conj do describe my love of astrology and the occult but I always dread transits here..am on th Eve of my Lilith Return and Im scared.

  31. Hi Dawn,

I really appreciate your devotion on sharing your knowledge with such a great level of details written in each article or topic on your site.

I have my BML conjunct my Sun, Pluto, Mars, Mercury in Scorpio. Does this placement tell us what kind of unsolved issue(s) left over from past lives? Can you please give me some insight on how this conjunction manifests in my relationship or daily life? And your advice on this.

    Thank you very much.

    1. Hello, Marguerite–It’s impossible to comment on something like this without seeing the entire chart. Stellia can be particularly difficult to sort out, let alone the purpose of BML in there. Past lives are indicated by other means.

    2. Hi Marguerite, I have BML cj Sun in Scorpio (6th H) too. I had a father who was sexually attracted to me, it made my mother very jealous, and she rejected me from very early on. My father was a teacher, my NN is in Capricorn 9th house. My mother is very interested in people with status (Sun cj Saturn MC). Anyway I was rejected very early on by my mother, and had a absent father who was afraid of his own sexual attractions. Hence, my rage is enormous towards existence and rejection by my family, who do not see me, hear me, neglect me (my Sun), they only see the BML. My mother had Pluto in Leo 11th H, she manipulated the family to reject me, made very clear who was her favourite an who not. Very painful. Later on I had relations with men, who were not attracted to me, but my BML: Venus in Aries was very painful to me, and also the father of my son who has Pluto conjunct my Venus. I think I have learned the wrong way to love to get the loving attention of my father I so desperately craved.
Also my son (my obsession: moon in cancer) was taken away from me by the sick patriarchal system, which is full of power abusers who so very fueled my rage. No ethics there, just abuse of power by lawyers, judges, consultants. They ofcource noticed my rage, which lead to my son taken away to his father, who married an African women who sold herself sexually via internet. They take care of him now, I do not see him anymore. It does not mean everyone is like that in the patriarchal system, just that those abusers where on this particular case. It made me so furious and powerless, I felt exactly the black rage described above to the point of wanting to kill myself (Sun). I also have Chiron in Aries. This all led to my NN in Capricorn 9th house and astrology. I could not grasp the meaning of this irrational life I am having and all the pain my Sun is going through. I am very keen on ethics. Working now for a childrens helpline, talking about sex positivity and self empowerment. I have no friends anymore, women dislike me, men dislike me. It made me very unattached of people, still searching for existential meaning. Jupiter in Capricorn 8th house.

      1. Also, I read an article about BML in Gemini. My mother has this, she rejected me my whole life. Since she is very authority oriented (people with status, teachers), she felt rejected by my father and punished me for it. The article says: “BML in Gemini is terrified of other people’s opinions. They want to be accepted and liked by everyone. They may reject people before they have the chance to be rejected. Struggle defining what your own individuality and tastes are as your mindset is too often focused on other people. Ask yourself, am I doing this for me or for someone’s approval?”
She was an alcoholic her whole life.

  32. Hi, Thanks for sharing so mutch knowledge.
I have BML 5 degrees Virgo conjunct south node in leo 29 degrees in my 12th house (leo). NN 29 degrees aquarius 6th House. Can you say me something …thank yo very much

    1. I’m afraid not. Not without looking at the rest of the chart. Remember that the BML is a potent but delicate point and a lot depends on her earlier history in your life.

  33. Hi, I have BML conjunct (less than one degree) to my sun in sagittarius in 4th house. As divorcee in muslim society with teenage kids, I refrain from sex and behave properly, and I want it so much.. it drives me crazy..

I would really request you to give some indication as to how to positively express it.. I used to write erotic stories at onetime anonymously for a website, will that help.. how to diffuse this all consuming tension..

    thanks ..

  34. Hello i Have black moon lilith in my 7th house taurus conjuct my venus trine my neptun, uranus, moon conjuction from capricorn,i am a libra ac.Actually my mother gave me the name Lilith haha.what would this aspect mean?

Also my mother has lilith/venus,mercury,sun conjuct 8th house aquarius trine pluto and sextile neptun, she is insanely beautiful and doesnt seem to age at all, people love her! she is cancer ac. what would this aspect mean? thank you for your answers 🙂

    1. Impossible to tell without analyzing the entire chart. BML, and all the major asteroids, require very delicate interpretation. Some people don’t feel them at all, others, a great deal.

  35. Hello Dawn,

Just wanted to announce that the natural perigee is charted for astrological purposes at astro.com. Go over to Extended Chart Selection, scroll it all the way down to where it says «List of other horoscope factors and “hypothetical” planets» and there you go.

    Best Regards,

    Clara.

  36. Hi Dawn – I’m loving your articles and am so grateful for the sharing of your knowledge.
I have BML exactly conjunct my AC in Cancer. Your comment about abandonment hits home (pun somewhat intended) – my mother neglected me as a child (food and otherwise) while my father was away at war and I almost didn’t live through it. My father’s second wife always seemed to think I was some crazed sexual being, even though that was never the case. I never understood it until I realized where BML resided in my chart.
These days I wear her with confidence. I am incredibly comfortable in my sexuality and find that it can be healing to those that I chose to be with intimately. She is powerful and, once embraced, can be very empowering.

  37. Hi! This is one of the best posts I’ve found about Black Moon Lilith. How would this play out if it was in Leo in the 1st house and conjunct the ascendant? Would that mean that it’s prominent? I still don’t get how it would affect me.

  38. This is one of the best posts I’ve found about Black Moon Lilith. How would this play out if it was in Leo in the 1st house and conjunct the ascendant? Would that mean that it’s prominent? I still don’t get how it would affect me.

  39. This will be rather long.

I have the BML completely conjunct my Virgo ascendant with the Moon a mere 7 degrees away (also in Virgo) and the South Node above it. It is completely unaspected beyond that except from an opposition with Ceres in Pisces. I also have Sun [very] conjunct Pluto in Scorpio with Mars in 0 degree Aries. Moon and Mars are square Saturn conjunct Uranus at the end of Sagittarius, and everything but Mars/Sun/Pluto is ruled by Venus and Mercury in Libra.

To be quite frank, I’m male, but the BML doesn’t want to make that obvious. To say that the BML is a dark feminine energy seems correct as I just need a mirror to see (although my first house is literally BML, Moon, and Venus, so…)

I shouldn’t delve into specifics since I have a Plutonian Inferno Sun that follows me around, but I always, always create female personas in writing, art, and even games…and every single time they are anti-villains, or rebellious younger women that have elaborate long hair, are insanely, insanely aggressive one moment then completely passive the next (they actually carry weapons), wear powerful gems, are very feminine with siren-like powers (Mars in Aries is in the 7th house), and they are all attractive. I do not know why I only create females…it just seems normal for me.

My father and brother left many years ago and I have had to deal with two very rough and critical females (one now in her 60’s and another mid 90’s) that are not at all feminine (to me). My strong Libra helped me deal with the strong negativity, but now it seems that I’ve have become more obsessed with the feminine “appearance” or “magnetism” due to its strange lack of in my life.

I do not feel that the BML is itself a siren or into seducing others as my chart in a whole screams these qualities with a touch of bright red. I do have a strange obsession with things that are owned by no-one, abandoned things or videos and writings long forgotten and perhaps even buried, but I’m not sure if that’s BML. I actually try to incorporate that part of me into my appearance…someone who seems out-of-place or just a dark spot in one’s eyes. I like bleak silence and muted television, and I’m rather dead silent myself.

One very important thing is my strange vocal “anomalies”. I silently hiss, growl, and roar (nothing is in my Leo) and I literally combine those sounds as if I was speaking a strange language. I have interpreted it as “sexual speech” (due to hissing and enunciation of every ‘S’) BML is in Virgo, so it’s not hard to believe its responsible (with it being related to a snake and what-not). Scorpio ruling the 3rd house may have those effects though…

More appearance related is a preoccupation with simple geometric shapes, which I wouldn’t mention if I wasn’t wearing a black disk on my neck and always identifying with black triangles and imagining an army of sentient black rectangles made out of crude oil. In practical life I garden using the most repulsive (but organic) things out there in order to transform their substance into plants. I have devised a system of composting and gardening that watches out for insects and attracts them (literally rules them) in order to do their dirty work on the dead and repulsive (or just edible) things that are placed on the ground. Due to this I literally tie my personality with the parasitic flower Rafflesia for it’s smell that attracts flies and fleshy-red color. To be honest, I just have to point to that flower to show people what I am about (it has almost all the colors and textures that are common in my imagination). We derive a strange sense of wonder seeing black liquids, watery plant debris, and dark soil and I’ve obsessed over insects ever since I was 6, but I also got an obsession with their eating behaviors later on (an obvious Virgo trait). I’m obsessed with the digestion of food, period, no matter the organism, and from a life where I was very picky, I now eat everything, including whole bones.

When it comes to sex, I’m immensely antagonized by it and try to not waste my sexual power until I finally need to use it (occultist jargon here)…then again, our Scorpio and Aries is involved too. I’m not afraid of mentioning sex or trying to piece apart the reasons why it controls people. I need to be in control, but luckily I know about balance and that I should not control others. I feel that my enemy are those femme fatales, which means that I am my own enemy.

  40. I am dealing with what feels like a twinflame situation and believe both of our Liliths play major parts. I have BML exact on my MC Aries with h13 and h21 within a 4° orb. They form a grand trine to my Ur, Ve, Me and Sat..his are in Libra with a 3° orb and conj his moon..his are just out of opposition to my 00° moon.
We instaconnected..he made plans with me, and said very gently “You know I love you” then he became distant..would literally turn his back but when he thought I was not looking would be in full gaping stare. He came up to me and someone having a conversation saying She knows she knows and laughing in a strange almost magical way..if we are in proximity he either tries to hide or sets himself front and center as if we are the only ones there. I have never dealt with this before..lol I am almost 59 he is almost 55. Is there some relevance to our strong lilith corridors?

  41. Hi Dawn,

I am wondering about the general energy that BLM would bring to a relationship where his BLM is conjunct her Ascendant(in Virgo) and her BLM is conjunct his Ascendant (in Capricorn)…AND their composite BLM is conjunct their ascendant (in Scorpio).

I have been unable to find any real information concerning BLM, mostly because it is still something the astrology field is exploring. Also, I tend to see a lot of negative interpretations out there, which I feel is missing a huge part of BLM Lilith’s connection to the Shadow Self and the immense personal evolution that can occur when the Shadow is seen.

    Blessings,
    Bethany
