Okay, folks. There has been a lot of nonsense raised lately about a newly discovered 13th sign, Ophiuchus. This has about as much validity as the “Paul is Dead” Beatles scandal. There is nothing new about this. The constellation is there, has been known for ages, and its bogus position as the governor of a 13th sign seems to come up at regular intervals–always ‘newly discovered’ by one media outlet or another. There is nothing ‘new’ about it, contrary to what you hear.
If your information doesn’t come from a valid segment of the astrological community, ignore it. It’s just media types trying to draw attention/scandal. Forget it and move on. Usually, what is behind it is a ploy to undermine the validity of astrology.
There are many of us in the astrological community who are willing to embrace all kinds of astrological advancements. This isn’t one of them.
Thanks for commenting on this nonsense. My friends have been driving me crazy on facebook for the last several hours asking me about this and freaking out because their signs have been “changed”. I have been steadily trying to clarify why this information is false, and am pretty exhausted at this point, as I imagine you are! Seeing this made me feel affirmed, so thank you.
Hi Dawn
do you know, in the thirty+ years I have been practising astrology, this orphiucus 13th constellation stuff has cropped up with monotonous regularity – usually in the New Year when the reductionists are too worn out by seasonal excess to think of anything more original with which to bash astrology. Yes, you are right. To the bin with it!!!
It’s crazy, isn’t it, the way these old chestnuts keep getting dragged out.. I’m a bit miffed that astrodienst or the NCGR haven’t issued a statement–I suppose they figured if they ignore the silliness it will just go away. But it makes me feel as though we should have an official voice to stomp all this nonsense in the bud.
When I first heard the teaser on NBC Nightly news, I was intrigued…some new astrological sign? Really? Once the story was revealed, it just made me roll my eyes. I’d heard this one before, and the idea that I’m a Gemini is absolute nonsense. 😉
