Time is Broken Now

Time is Broken Now

Time is broken now.  You should never have come.

And yet you crossed what was between us,

Thin ice on a rushing river

A temporary stillness in the count of hours and minutes

My tall, dark, shadow in the distance

You crossed to me, and I came to you,

Eager to leave the land.

Time is broken now.  You should never have come.

Brave traveler, what calls us here

Where nothing can be known?

Only this stillness now, this ice

That rises up in heaving sheets and intersects itself,

This is ours.  These fragile facets,

Light-loving diamonds of shattered days

We will never own.
