Dawn Bodrogi ✦ The Inner Wheel
Most synastry guides treat aspects as a list of verdicts — this aspect is good, this one is difficult, this one promises compatibility. Dawn Bodrogi’s approach was different. She read aspects as a system — a set of geometric relationships that together describe the full architecture of how two people’s energies interact, where the ease lives, where the friction is located, and what both are asking of the people involved.

No single aspect tells the full story. A Venus trine Moon without any Saturn contacts tells you where the ease is but not whether the relationship has the structural integrity to sustain itself over time. A Sun square Saturn without any softer contacts tells you where the demand is but not whether either person has the resources to meet it. The aspects read together as a system reveal what the relationship is actually made of.
“The aspects tell you the quality. The full chart tells you the truth.”

The Five Major Aspects at a Glance
Conjunction — 0°
Fusion. Two energies merged into one self-contained force — reckless, headstrong, extreme. The most powerful and least predictable of the aspects. Neither person can see the contact clearly from the inside.
Sextile — 60°
Available opportunity. Compatible but different elements in productive conversation. Requires conscious activation — the ease must be chosen rather than simply received. Rewards engagement.
Square — 90°
Active friction. Two energies at cross-purposes, demanding resolution. Conscious, nagging, impossible to ignore. When worked through, produces something real and lasting. The aspect of growth through difficulty.
Trine — 120°
Automatic flow. Shared element, energy moving in the same direction without resistance. Requires no activation but risks being taken for granted. The aspect of natural ease — and of complacency.
Opposition — 180°
Magnetic polarity. Two energies in full view of each other across the chart, demanding negotiation rather than resolution. The Libran aspect — diplomatic, aware, and producing the fascination of genuine difference.
Conjunctions in Synastry
The most powerful and least predictable of all aspects — fusion, intensity, and the specific challenge of two energies that cannot see each other clearly from the inside.
→ Venus Conjunct Saturn — the karmic debt
→ Mars Conjunct North Node — the person who changes your direction
→ Venus Conjunct Chiron — loving the hurt
→ Sun Conjunct Moon — the most fundamental luminary contact
Squares in Synastry
The aspect of active friction — conscious, nagging, demanding resolution. When worked through, the aspect that produces the most lasting growth.
→ Moon Square Neptune — the fog between two people
→ Neptune Square Venus — when love becomes illusion
→ Squares to the Nodes — Dawn Bodrogi’s original analysis
→ Sun Squares Jupiter — spiritual adulthood and the challenge of expansion
Oppositions in Synastry
The Libran aspect — magnetic polarity, mutual visibility, and the fascination of genuine difference held in full view.
→ Neptune Opposite Venus — the polarity of illusion and value
→ Saturn Opposite Saturn — Dawn Bodrogi’s original analysis
Trines in Synastry
The aspect of automatic flow — shared element, natural ease, and the specific risk of comfort that is never actively cultivated.

Sextiles in Synastry
The aspect of available opportunity — compatible elements in productive conversation, rewarding conscious engagement over passive reception.
Reading Aspects as a System
Dawn’s consistent instruction was to read aspects in order of tightness — orb first, then aspect type. A Venus trine Moon at 0.5° is more significant than a Venus conjunct Moon at 5°. The orb tells you how precisely the two energies are engaged. The aspect type tells you the nature of that engagement.
When reading the full aspect picture of a synastry, look first for what is dominant: are there more hard aspects than soft? More ease than friction? The overall weighting tells you the fundamental character of the relational work. A chart heavy with squares and oppositions is not a bad chart — it is a chart that demands active engagement. A chart heavy with trines and sextiles is not a guaranteed good chart — it is a chart that risks complacency.
The most enduring partnerships in Dawn’s experience consistently showed a balance — enough ease to make daily life manageable, enough friction to keep both people genuinely engaged with each other over time. Neither all ease nor all demand. The mixture is what produces depth.
