The Four Nations of Trine
Each element has a journey from the inner realms to the outer reaches. Even if there are no planets in a particular house, the energy knows where it is intended to go. It is the natural path of the triplicities.
Fire — Houses 1, 5, 9
Fire is about the journey of the ego. The raw Aries I of the first house must learn conscious expression in the fifth, and eventually follow its path of individual vision and universal law in the ninth. Fire houses demand we move forward to light the way for others.
Earth — Houses 2, 6, 10
Earth houses want concrete results — something you can touch and feel. We move from possession (2) to perfection (6) to achievement (10). You cannot philosophise your way out of an Earth house dilemma. It requires results.
Air — Houses 3, 7, 11
Air houses move us from information gathering (3) to the exchange of ideas through other (7) and finally toward an egalitarian concept of the universe (11). We test our knowledge through the mirror of relationship.
Water — Houses 4, 8, 12
Water is the most mysterious element. It begins with the unique, vulnerable feeling of the fourth, moves through the submerging of the ego in the eighth, and ends with the understanding that we are at one with the Source in the 12th. The Water houses are about learning to live as the One within the All.
The Silent Work of the Trine
While squares fight, conjunctions implode, and sextiles over-stimulate — the trine is what keeps things moving in a circular, cyclical motion. It is the eternal renewal of the spirit.

For those curious, the strong second-house chart mentioned belongs to Leonardo DiCaprio (Nov 11, 1974). With his Earth houses flowing into a 10th house Saturn, it is no surprise he focuses so much ambition on preserving our natural resources. Go, Leo!

Wondering if you might consider changing the black background and the tiny fragil print. It is so very difficult to read and is eye straining. Again, your site is wonderful.

Thanks for the kind words about the site. I have been searching for a template that’s easier to read, but so far none organize the material the way I need to organize it.
What you can do is change the size of the font for your browser. How you do this depends on which browser you use–in Firefox you go to Tools/Options/Contents. It’s not a perfect solution, but it will help you read the site.
It’s almost a coincidence that I’ve realized recently that I have an almost true grand trine in water (venus, saturn, jupiter, juno, ceres) involving the IC (scorpio) and the earth grand trine involving the MC (along with the moon, mars, pluto.
I can be both deeply spiritual and highly pragmatic. I believe that having both of these trines, enabled me to get in and out of truly complex and even dangerous situations with high stakes involved, mostly unscathed with occassional minor setbacks; working as an organizational change agent and fraud specialist.
Hi Dawn, what do you mean by ‘conjunctions implode’? I get an image of something quite destructive, but I don’t think this is what you mean. Thanks
Most people misunderstand the conjunction. They think they’re ‘nice,’ or romantic, everyone longs for them in synastry. In truth, conjunctions are the most volatile aspect. The two or more planets involved can fight one another ferociously, especially if they straddle different signs or houses. I just had a reading with someone who had a Saturn/Jupiter conjunction sandwiched on either side of the North Node–she swayed back and forth from extreme discipline to extreme excess. Even an ordinary conjunction can bring out the most extreme behaviour of the planets involved. Take a look at the Tony Perkins piece in the archives: he’s the poster boy for wild conjunctions.
So what do you do with someone whose planets cluster in the latter houses – 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th? Where does that energy go?
Usually those people are interested in bigger things, the bigger world, and are bored by the mundane and the ordinary. Often, they need to learn to ground themselves.
