The Moon is often more personally recognizable than the Sun because it describes the private self rather than the public one. Most people find their Moon sign more accurate than their Sun sign when they first encounter it.

The Rising Sign — How You Meet the World

Your Rising sign — also called the Ascendant — is the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment you were born. It describes how you meet the world and how the world first meets you — the quality of your approach, your presence, the impression you make before anyone knows anything about you. Chiron is a centaur body orbiting between Saturn and Uranus. Black Moon Lilith is a mathematical point — the lunar apogee, the place in the Moon’s orbit farthest from the Earth. In Dawn’s framework it marks the territory where something genuine was pushed underground — not because it was wrong, but because the environment that shaped you could not hold it. Do I need my birth time?

Yes — for your Rising sign and house placements. The Ascendant changes every two hours, so without a birth time the calculator cannot determine your Rising sign or which house each planet occupies. Your Sun, Moon, and Chiron sign will still be accurate from birth date alone in most cases. If you do not know your birth time, check your birth certificate or ask a parent. Even an approximate time — morning, afternoon, evening — produces a significantly more useful chart than no time at all.

What house system does this use?

Whole Sign houses — the oldest house system in astrology and the foundation of Dawn Bodrogi’s practice. In Whole Sign houses, each house corresponds to an entire sign. If your Ascendant is in Scorpio, your 1st house is all of Scorpio, your 2nd is all of Sagittarius, and so on. If you are used to Placidus — the default in most online calculators — some placements will look different. This is not an error. It is a different and in many ways more psychologically precise system.

How is this different from Astro.com?

Astro.com gives you the raw chart data — planets, signs, degrees, and houses. It is accurate and comprehensive. What it does not give you is interpretation. This calculator gives you both: the accurate chart data from Swiss Ephemeris plus a paragraph of interpretation for each of your five key placements, written in Dawn Bodrogi’s psychological framework. The data tells you where your planets are. The interpretation tells you what that actually means.

What is the difference between Mean and True Lilith?

This calculator uses Mean Black Moon Lilith — the standard used in psychological astrology and the foundation of Dawn Bodrogi’s practice. Mean Lilith uses the average orbital path of the Moon’s apogee and moves smoothly through the zodiac. True Lilith tracks the actual moment-to-moment position, which can jump erratically. If your Lilith sign here differs from what another calculator showed you, the other calculator likely used True Lilith.

Can I get a deeper reading of any placement?
