Synastry Studies ✦ Dawn Bodrogi ✦ The Inner Wheel

One of the great break-up agents in partnerships is stasis. With a planet square the Nodes, continuing stimulation — or irritation — is guaranteed.
The Power of the Bendings
The Nodes represent the long-term development of relational consciousness. When a planet squares them, it sits at the Bending — the midpoint between the North and South Nodes. This position creates a perpetual tension. Like all magnetic aspects, it is no guarantee of ease, but if other aspects are favourable, this one acts as a constant engine.
In synastry, the planet person becomes a permanent guest at the midpoint of the other’s soul-path. Because a square is a call to action, this contact demands that something be built. These unlikely couples stay together because they feel they are on assignment with one another. Even if the relationship is difficult, there is a sense that the work is not yet finished.
— Dawn Bodrogi
A planet at the North Bending tends to pull the Node person toward the future — acting as a catalyst for new growth. A planet at the South Bending tends to bring up old unresolved business, so it can finally be integrated as a resource rather than a burden.
The Alarm Clock of the Relationship
Why does this aspect act as a magnet? Because we are instinctively drawn to what completes our story. While a conjunction to the North Node feels like destiny and a conjunction to the South Node feels like home, the square feels like necessity. It provides the heat.
If you have an abundance of trines and sextiles in your synastry, you might be happy — but you might also become lazy. The square to the Nodes ensures that you stay awake. It is the alarm clock of the relationship. Whether we are up to the challenge of that constant awakening is another thing entirely. But for those seeking a relationship that serves as a vehicle for soul-evolution, there is no more potent a signal.

The square to the Nodes is the alarm clock of the relationship.
I love your work … squares to the nodes between charts fascinate me … me and a friend have got our chariklo’s bang on the square point for each other …aswell as other planets nearby… can I ask what orb you tend to allow with the nodes and square point? I’m also looking for your books, only just discovered your website.
I would love to hear more of your thoughts around this area, as you say it is little talked about, but I can’t help feeling it’s huge!!!
Sorry, one other question … at the square point … how do you know if the other person has more to do with your south or north node?!? Or is it a case of both? I know we feel most comfy in our south node zone but we are supposed to strive towards our north node?!
Mich, My belief is that Dawn would have said that is it s case of both – may I suggest you read Dawn’s series on the nodes for a deeper understanding of how she perceived the they functioned. It’s truly brilliant: https://theinnerwheel.com/2009/11/20/the-hungry-moon-the-nodes-part-one/
how was this blog entry published posthumously by Dawn?
Im her brother Paul. I post approve this comments from time to time.
Im Dawn’s brother Paul. I post /approve comments from time to time. I was asked by friends and colleauges to keep the site up.
Hi, thanks for this article!! I was trying to find this info. Would this apply to the nodes of a person squaring the nodes of the other? Thank you!
Hi there! I’m curious who runs this blog now? I just learned that Dawn passed away a few years ago but I see posts to this site from 2020. Is someone posting new content under her name? Is it her content that’s being published here now? I’m just confused. <3
HI, I am Dawns brother and I am keeping the site up by request of many of Dawn’s friends and colleagues. Any new content are things Dawn was meaning to make public.
What happens in the case of one sided squares to nodes in synastry?
That is to say only one partner has their planet/luminary (lets say their sun) square the otherse nodes but not vice versa? Does it play out the same as how you’ve described it when it’s a double whammy?
That’s an amazing concept about a planet square to the nodes. I’ll have to check it out.
What about other aspects like trines to the nodes?
Am back here again, just seen the comments – many thanks all for continuing, Dawn’s work is amazing, I’m slways re-visiting, with much #gratitude
