Black Moon Lilith in the Houses: Where the Wound Lives

Don’t know your Black Moon Lilith sign or house? Find it instantly with our free Black Moon Lilith calculator — enter your birth date, time, and place and it will show you your exact Lilith placement in seconds.

If the sign placement of Black Moon Lilith tells you how the wound expresses — its tone, its particular quality of hunger and rage — the house placement tells you where it lives in your actual life. Which territory. Which arena of daily experience. Where the unmet need was first denied and where it will make itself felt, again and again, until the sacrifice is made and the genuine power emerges.

Dawn Bodrogi wrote that BML’s rage has to do with “the needs of any house it falls in.” In the 5th house, the need for creative self-expression — when denied — produces fury. In the 8th, the need for genuine intimacy. In the 10th, the need to be seen and taken seriously in the world. Each house gives BML a specific territory in which the wound operates, the rage ignites, and — when the sacrifice is finally made — the power of the Queen of the Unseen becomes available.

Find your Lilith house below. Read it alongside your sign placement for the fuller picture. And remember what Dawn wrote about the sacrifice: it is not what is appropriate to lose. It is the fears, terrors, and hungers themselves.

“The only way we can tap into the great power of Black Moon Lilith is to sacrifice our fears, terrors and hungers. Far from being at the mercy of her hungers, once she realises she doesn’t have to be hungry she has the powers of all the hidden knowledge of the universe at her feet.”

— Dawn Bodrogi

What the House Placement Actually Means

Black Moon Lilith is not the asteroid Lilith. She is the apogee of the Moon — the point in the Moon’s elliptical orbit where it is furthest from the Earth. This makes her, at the most fundamental level, the anti-Moon: where the Moon describes how we feel nurtured, comforted, and familiar, BML is the stark terror of what happens when that nurture is ripped away.

Dawn described the BML experience as the moment when a very young child drops its parent’s hand in a crowd. The pure, primal scream of fear and rage that follows — not a metaphorical terror but a cellular, physical one, because at that age the child knows instinctively that separation from the caregiver means death. That is the quality of the wound BML carries, and the quality of the rage when the wound is touched.

The house shows you where that wound first formed — which territory of life the original denial or abandonment operated in — and where it continues to operate until the sacrifice is consciously made. It is not a comfortable placement in any house. But in every house, the power that emerges when the hunger is sacrificed is specific, genuine, and — as Dawn wrote — occult in the truest sense: hidden knowledge that simply knows, without needing to be told.

The house placement requires an accurate birth time. Without one, the sign placement is available but the house is uncertain. If you have a confirmed birth time, treat the house as the more personal and specific layer of the placement — the sign describes the quality, the house describes the territory.

The Sacrifice and the Gift

Dawn was clear that the sacrifice BML requires is not what is appropriate to lose — not the ordinary losses of maturity, not the reasonable letting-go of things that no longer serve. The sacrifice is the fears, the terrors, and the hungers themselves. The screaming, demanding, consuming appetite that the wound produced and that has been driving behaviour ever since.

This is why BML is not a comfortable placement to work with. The hunger feels like life itself. To give it up feels like death. But what Dawn consistently observed in charts where BML had been genuinely integrated was not a diminishment but an emergence — the specific, ancient, instinctual knowing that she called the power of the occult: not witchcraft in the popular sense, but the capacity to perceive what is hidden, to know what has not been said, to access the dimensions of experience that ordinary consciousness cannot reach.

The house shows you where that power most naturally wants to emerge. It is the same territory as the wound — because the gift is always the wound’s transformed face. The person who has genuinely worked with BML in the 8th house becomes the one who can accompany others into the darkest transformative territory without flinching. The one who has worked with BML in the 3rd becomes the one whose voice carries a quality of truth that cannot be dismissed. The house is the wound and the gift simultaneously. The only question is which face you are living from.
